God In America - A PBS documentary

Presenter: Susan Hotchkiss  

We will watch this great history of the relationship between religion and the United States. Then on the alternate weeks we will discuss events and people involved in shaping who were are today as spiritual Americans. 

Mystics Then and Now 

Presenter: Susan Van Dyke

This session will focus on offerings from psalms, poetry and prayer.  Individuals highlighted may include Hildegard of Bingen, Rumi, Hafiz, W.B. Yeats. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, David Whyte and Mary Oliver.  This will be an experiential adventure for all.  Three books will provide background, but no purchase of any is required.  We may spend some time with the book given at this year's women's' retreat, Strength for the Journey.  All are invited to come "taste and see." 

Bible and Book of Common Prayer Challenge 

Facilitators: Rhonda Canby and the Rev. Randy Knutson

The goal is to read one chapter in the New Testament, one Psalm, and one of the prayers in the Book of Common Prayer each day for one year to anchor each day in scripture, and to become familiar with the beauty of the prayers in the Prayer Book.

Trinity Cathedral (Men and Youth Group) has partnered with CEAR to recycle all of the collected e-waste. CEAR is a CA State approved Collector and Recycler of Electronic waste. They completely shred all hard drives at their securely monitored facility. Providing fundraiser and community outreach is part of what makes CEAR a unique  e-waste recycler.

We will accept: monitors, televisions, desktop and notebook PCs, VCRs, stereo equipment, CD's, speakers, keyboards, mice, PDAs, digital cameras, zip drives, telephones, cell phones, printers, copiers, laser and multifunction scanners and fax machines, small household appliances such as toasters, mixers and blenders, vacuum cleaners with the dust bag removed

We cannot accept: Large household appliances (i.e. refrigerators, washers, dryers, etc.), furniture, hazardous household waste including batteries, car batteries, paint, pesticides, used oil, cleaning supplies, fluorescent light bulbs, water heaters, tires etc.

Floyd School Garden Clean-Up

Saturday, October 25  at 9:00 am - Noon

Floyd School garden needs just a little more weeding and clean up before winter. So we are having one more clean up day on Saturday, October 25 from 9 to 12. We will weed an area we missed last time and help in a few other areas.

The neighborhood church will be having a harvest festival from 11 to 2pm that day. We are all invited to come for the festivities at the health professions high school next door.

Book of Remembrance

There will be a Book of Remembrance in the Narthex today and next Sunday where you can list the names of those you wish to remember during the service on Monday, November 3 at 5:45pm. Please clearly print the names of those you wish remembered in prayer and join us on this holy day.

Introduction to the Episcopal Church

2013 Pumpkin Night.

Pumpkin Night

Did you know Trinity is absolutely the best place for pumpkin carving? We have the tools, and supper, too! This year we will also have the best chili! Come and join us on Sunday, October 26th as we celebrate Halloween with pumpkin carving and a wonderful dinner! We'll have pumpkins available; you're also welcome to bring your own, too, and we have lots of carving tools. Cost is $5.00 per person or $10.00 per family. We'll eat, and carve, and end with a short blessing as we light the pumpkins in church!

Questions About the Ballot Propositions?    

We all have an excellent opportunity to gain some insight and find answers to our questions on Monday, October 27th from 7:00 - 8:30 pm here at Trinity Cathedral as Suzanne Phinney of the League of Women Voters facilitates an informational forum about the ballot propositions.

Election Day is fast approaching and we are all being inundated with information about the ballot propositions. It is easy to get confused and many of us are scratching our heads and asking questions.   "What will happen if I vote "no"?" "What does my "yes" vote mean?" "How does the proposal affect the status quo?" "Would this proposal cause any harm?" "Are there financial implications?" And so on, and so on.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed participation in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues.

The right to vote is a sacred trust. When we take the time to be as informed as possible, we demonstrate our commitment to being good stewards of that trust!

Commemoration of All Faithful Departed 
 

On Monday, November 3 at 5:45pm, we will gather in the Cathedral to remember the All Faithful Departed. It is a liturgy that celebrates the lives of those we love but see no longer and is rooted in the Good News of the Resurrection.

Election Day Is Just Around the Corner:

Tuesday, November 4th

Trinity Cathedral is a designated polling place so many people who might not ordinarily visit us will be coming by to vote. This presents a great opportunity for us to demonstrate that "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You" is not simply a clever marketing phrase but an accurate description of the Trinity brand of hospitality. Let's show our visitors that we absolutely "walk the talk" by having a team of greeters providing cookies, coffee and lemonade at the polls. So break out your mixing bowls and aprons - or swing by the bakery! You may bring your cookie donations to church labeled "Election Day" any time prior to the election. There will be a table in the Great Hall where you can leave your donation on Sunday, November 2nd. You may also bring your donations on Election Day.

We also need Election Day hosts to greet the voters as they arrive and offer them refreshments.   

If you can either help on Election Day or provide some goodies, please sign up in the Great Hall on Sunday or contact Kathleen Montgomery at ladyiris49@gmail.com so we will know we're ready.

Veteran's Day Display

Let's celebrate our Trinity veterans and honor service members with a display in the Great Hall on Sunday, November 9th. We will set up tables (early Sunday morning) to display your pictures, memorabilia, uniforms, etc. Better yet, wear your uniform! Drop off your items, labeled with your name and phone number, at the cathedral office no later than Thursday, November 6th. Also write up a short statement about your service and describe your contribution to the display. Let us share our stories of service with all of Trinity's congregation! Multi-faith Thanksgiving Dinner

Sunday November 16, 5:00 - 7:00 pm

at Capital Christian Center,

Capital Christian Center will host this event as Jewish, Christian and Muslim community members join in celebration. The evening's activities will include a guest speaker/panel discussion/worship songs.

Each single guest / couple / family is asked to contribute to the potluck by bringing enough food for 8 people.

Last name A - F  Salad -Green, fruit, pasta, etc.

Last name G - L  Side dish- Potato, rice, vegetable, etc.

Last name M - S  Main Dish- Any Vegetarian dish or fish,

or Meat (if Kosher or Halal, please bring own utensils)

Last name T - Z   Dessert

Special ethnic or regional dishes are encouraged. Labels will be available at the buffet table to identify Kosher/Halal foods.
