"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

You may have heard about the devastating Ebola crisis in West Africa.  As of Monday, there have been over 1300 cases reported with around 730 deaths.  This crisis hits close to home for Trinity Cathedral because several of our active members are from Sierra Leone and Liberia.  One member, Don Taylor, is Chair Emeritus of the National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA.)  Don told me on Sunday that there is a significant need for medical supplies, and in particular, a need for funds to ship donated medical supplies to West Africa.  I am attaching NOSLINA's donation letter for more information.  At the bottom of the letter there are instruction on how to make an online Paypal contribution.  You can also write a check to Trinity Cathedral with "West Africa Ebola Crisis" in the memo block and we will forward your contribution.

I will also contact Gabriel Williams, a member of Trinity who is the Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs at the Embasy of Liberia, to see if there are other ways we can be supportive.

On Sunday, August 17 at 4pm, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, there will be a prayer service for victims of Ebola.

Please remember the people of West Africa, and their family around the world, in your prayers.  If I learn anything more this next week, I will mention it in next week's e-news.

Blessings,

Brian

Ministry Opportunities

Stephen Ministry Logo

A Gift for Listening

We all have challenging times in life. Sometimes we need a friend to walk through those times with us. A Stephen Minister is trained to do just that: to come along side another in their journey, to encourage when encouragement is needed, to be a compassionate companion, to listen.

If you can give one hour once a week to meet with someone who's going through a difficult time, then you may be the perfect candidate to be a Stephen Minister.

If you would like to learn more about this dynamic ministry, please see Cherie or Dana Chamness in the Bookshop between services on Sundays or call the Bookshop at 916-442-9194. Or call Susan Wilson at 916-835-2799.

August 7 Egeria

Presented by The Rev. Randy Knutson

Egeria? Who is That?

Egeria was a 4th century pilgrim to the Holy Land (381-384). She wrote about her travels and this record has become an important witness to early Christian liturgy, architecture and Holy Land studies. (Egeria's writing about her experiences in Jerusalem has shaped liturgical renewal and our own Holy Week practices). This presentation will incorporate music, photos and video from Randy's Holy Land pilgrimage this last January with Bishop Beisner and members of our Diocese.

Potluck Dinner Church Invite

When: Friday August 29th at 7:30pm

Where: Trinity Cathedral, Sacramento

About: Potluck is a new community born out of our worship community discernment process that began last Advent. After months of research, discussion, experimentation, and discernment, the leadership circle found that the most excitement and hope came from one of the forms we experimented together with. Potluck dinner church is a more casual encounter with community and communion around a shared meal. Everyone contributes to the experience by volunteering to bring the bean dip, or the opening prayer, a song, or the candles etc... All are welcome at the table and invited to offer what they have (bread, joy, hummus, questions...) and be open to receiving what is offered (punch, friendship, connections, cake...). We are excited to invite you, family, friends, neighbors, and relative strangers to our first public potluck dinner church. Questions and RSVP to megan@trinitycathedral.org. If you would like to contribute food/drink and/or liturgical pieces to the gathering, please let us know.

Children and Family Ministry

Do you like to sew?

Are you good with craft projects?

Children and Family Ministries is looking for people to help us with some cutting and sewing projects. We need to add

2010 Christmas Pageant
2010 Christmas pageant cast.

to our Christmas pageant costumes. These are simple costumes - we have the patterns and some of the fabric. We will also soon begin work on a felt project. If you can cut out preprinted felt patterns and glue them together, we'd love your help - no sewing needed for these! Please contact Rev. Kathy Hopner at 930-8027 for more information. Thank you!

We need Legos, Legos, Legos!

Do you have unused Legos that need a new home? We are just the place for them! In September, we will begin a new Sunday School program for our second and third grade class: Building Faith, Brick by Brick. We are very excited about this program which uses Legos to explore our faith stories. We'd love donations of used or new Legos - we're also in need of Lego people and their accessories.
