"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

On Tuesday we sent an email with a link to a survey that will help guide our strategic decisions.  It was sent to every member for whom we have an email address in our database.  If you did not get a survey, please let me know and I will make sure your information gets updated in our database.  Here's the link in case you didn't get it:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TrinityCathedral.

We used this same survey six years ago and I am eager to see how the perspective of the members of Trinity Cathedral may have changed over these past years.  Please take the time to complete the survey.  The results of the last survey helped guide decision made by me and the vestry and I would like your input to help guide us as we move forward.

Also, I want to invite you to a conversation I will be having this Monday with my friend, Tibetan Buddhist monk, Lama Marut.  He will be talking about his new book, Be Nobody.  We will also have a discussion about Nirvana or the Kingdom of Heaven as present possibilities rather than pie in the sky notions to hope for after we die.  We will be meeting in the Assembly Area, upstairs above the office, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

Blessings,

Brian

Ministry Opportunities

Labyrinth
Walking the Labyrinth

One of the Spiritual Practices that Trinity makes available each month to our parishioners and to the wider community is the opportunity to walk the Labyrinth.  Walking the Labyrinth is a way of centering, a way of slowing the pace, a way of entrusting one's journey to God.  The Labyrinth Ministry is currently looking for a couple of volunteers who could help set up and take down the canvas in the Great Hall on the third Friday of the month.  If you would be willing to take a turn please contact Rhonda Canby and let her know your availability at rcanby@msn.com.

Farewell and Best Wishes to Julia!

Julia Boudrye, second from left, with Trinity Youth on their recent  Mission Trip to Lapwai, Idaho.

We have been blessed this year to have Julia Boudrye intern with us! She has been a joyful and enthusiastic partner in our children and youth ministry programs, teaching Sunday School, leading Children's Chapel, and a vital part of our youth ministry leadership team.   Julia is part of the Lutheran Episcopal Volunteer Network (LEVN) program located in Davis. The Episcopal Church offers young adults two outstanding service opportunities: the Young Adult Service Corp (YASC), and the Episcopal Service Corps. The YASC program is for young adults interested in serving communities in the Anglican Communion. From Tanzania to Honduras, they serve as teachers, medical assistants, work in agricultural development, refugee assistance, and serve provincial offices.

The Episcopal Service Corps, in which Julia has served this year, is a network of programs across the United States for young adults who commit to living simply in intentional Christian community for a year while serving others. From The New York Disaster Recovery Program to The Episcopal Urban Intern Program in Los Angeles, these 30 different programs across the U.S. offer an opportunity to explore growing into spiritual adulthood. Young adults are encouraged to pursue their dreams for the future in the context of their faith, grounded in relationship to others, and the communities they serve.

While working in the LEVN program this year, Julia has served the campus ministry program at U.C. Davis as well as working at Trinity. In her recent sermon, she described her experiences here, which have led her to follow a call into ordained ministry. (Listen to her sermon on our website!) She leaves us to attend Princeton Theological Seminary where she'll pursue not only her masters in divinity, but her love for youth ministry as well; Princeton has one of the best youth ministry programs in the U.S.! This Sunday is Julia's last Sunday at Trinity. We are hosting a brunch on Sunday to share our recent Mission Trip experiences, and to wish Julia well; everyone is invited. Please join us as we send her off on her next adventure! We'd also like to help her start the new school year - please consider contributing to a fund to help her purchase text books.

Thank you!

July 17 Peter Hallock

Presented by Canon David Link

Few musicians have made such a lasting contribution to American church music in the Twentieth Century than Peter Hallock. For forty years he was organist, choirmaster, and Canon Precentor at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle. During his tenure at the Cathedral, he began the tradition of singing the service of Compline each Sunday evening, a tradition which has spread throughout North America. Adding to this was his depth as a composer and teacher. Join us as we explore this giant of church music, who died on April 28th of this year.

Bagging frozen french fries

at the Idaho Food Bank

Our youth group recently got back from a mission trip to Lapwai, ID.   Together with 70 other youth and adults, we worshipped, painted, worked at a food bank, spent time with senior citizens in a skilled nursing facility, put on a kids camp, and learned about our identity through Christ in the world today. Many of you were able to take part in our adventure through our blog (www.trinityEYF.weebly.com). We would love the chance to share with you in person this Sunday, July 20th This adventure would not have been possible without your prayers and financial support, and we want to share our experiences and recognize all of those who contributed! We will provide brunch, stories from our trip, and lots of smiles. Everyone is invited. All you have to do is bring yourself!

Do you have unused Legos that need a new home? We are just the place for them! In September, we will begin a new Sunday School program for our second and third grade class: Building Faith, Brick by Brick. We are very excited about this program which uses Legos to explore our faith stories. We'd love donations of used or new Legos - we're also in need of Lego people and their accessories.
