"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

In 2007, one year after my arrival, Trinity Cathedral members participated in a very helpful survey provided by HolyCow! Consulting.  The survey was specifically designed to provide church leaders information on why people of different ages, and different levels of connection to the church, attend and support the church.  The survey also helped identify priorities for moving forward.   For example, we learned that the two primary reasons people were satisfied with their connection with Trinity Cathedral were the quality of the worship experience and the way the spirit in the congregation motivates people to be involved.  We also learned that a top priority for member was to help those outside the church connect with the congregation.  This information has helped shape my ministry and the ministry of the staff and leadership for the past seven years.

It is time to re-take this survey.  One of the benefits of using the same survey is we have a benchmark for comparison.  One other advantage is Canon Britt Olson, who works in the Office of the Bishop, can serve as the consultant at no cost to Trinity, which gives us a professional survey at little cost.

The survey will be completed online.  The survey link will be emailed to members of the congregation on July 15 and will remain active until August 15. We will make paper copies of the survey available for those who cannot access the online version.

Seven years ago we had 292 people complete the survey.  While this was considered a good response, I think we can do much better.  I encourage you to respond when the link is available.  We will be able to provide updates as to how many surveys are completed, and we look forward to sharing the results.  The vestry will receive the results at a one-day retreat on September 6 and the results will be shared with the congregation shortly thereafter.

Blessings,

Brian

One of the Spiritual Practices that Trinity makes available each month to our parishioners and to the wider community is the opportunity to walk the Labyrinth.  Walking the Labyrinth is a way of centering, a way of slowing the pace, a way of entrusting one's journey to God.  The Labyrinth Ministry is currently looking for a couple of volunteers who could help set up and take down the canvas in the Great Hall on the third Friday of the month.  If you would be willing to take a turn please contact Rhonda Canby and let her know your availability at rcanby@msn.com.

Please join us for our Summer Sunday School program, Abundant Life Garden Project, beginning Sunday, July 6th - August 24th. This program, designed by Episcopal Relief and Development, engages children with Bible stories focused on water, seeds, soil, animals, and harvest. We'll explore what plants and animals need to grow and flourish, and what we as children of God need to grow and shine as a light to the world! We'll meet upstairs in the Assembly Area from 10:15 - 11:15 on Sunday mornings in July and August. We are looking for junior and senior high school youth to help with this program, as well as some adult leaders. If you are interested, please let Rev. Kathy Hopner know at 930-8027.

Newcomers' Group

We will not meet this Sunday.  The group will be received next Sunday, July 13.

30/40s and Beyond

Since attendance has been very light this June, I am going to make the decision that we take a break from meeting this summer and will resume on the first day of Sunday School in the Fall.

I invite you to join me Tuesday, July 8, 7pm in Room F, for a brainstorming session for the Adult Ministries Formation team to share ideas for adult education/spiritual formation for the Fall.

If you are not able to attend, feel free to give me ideas you might have of what we could embark upon as a group in the Fall. Have a blessed and grace-filled summer!

Next Week & Beyond

The Adult Ministries Formation Team...

... invites you to join us Tuesday, July 8 at 7pm in Room F, for a brainstorming session where we will share ideas for adult education/spiritual formation for the Fall. We will be planning all of our programs from September to the end of November. If you are not able to attend, feel free to send your ideas to Pastor Pamela (Pamela@trinitycathedral.org), the Adult Ministries Director, so that we can bring your voice to the table. We look forward to creating great, fun and inspiring programs and we hope that you will come and join us. See you then!!!

Voices of Faith

Begins this Thursday, July 10

Anne Hutchinson

Presented by Susan Hotchkiss

You are invited to become acquainted with Anne Hutchinson, who, in 1637, was charged with sedition and heresy by the Massachusetts General Court. She was ultimately banished by these men and went on to become the only female co-founder of an American colony, Rhode Island, along with Roger Williams. During her lifetime, Hutchinson was referred to as the instrument of Satan and Jezebel by her Puritan detractors. Nathaniel Hawthorne used her as model for Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter. All in all a very interesting woman and a very devout voice of faith.

Do you have unused Legos that need a new home? We are just the place for them! In September, we will begin a new Sunday School program for our second and third grade class: Building Faith, Brick by Brick. We are very excited about this program which uses Legos to explore our faith stories. We'd love donations of used or new Legos - we're also in need of Lego people and their accessories.
