"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
  Jerry Pare

Peter stood with the eleven and shouted to the crowd, "Listen to what I say! We aren't drunk! We are filled with the Holy Spirit!" This is a paraphrase of a couple of verses in this Sunday's reading from Acts, but it is in the spirit of the passage (so to speak).

It is Pentecost! We celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit into the world through the Church; through us!

We will celebrate a baptism at the 11:15 service and renew our baptismal vows at the other services. We present Bibles to our fifth grade students and recognize our high school graduates. We celebrate the "Affirmation of Vocation" for the adults +Bishop Beisner confirmed at the Easter Vigil and for Pat Ronne, who reaffirmed her faith at that time. These adults have continued to meet throughout the Easter season discerning where God is leading them. This is the same process witnessed to in the Gospels as Jesus's disciples wrestled with what it means to proclaim the Easter Good News -- "Christ is risen, Alleluia. He is risen indeed!" How do I live into my faith in Christ Jesus? How do WE live into our faith that Jesus is the Christ? The discernment process wasn't easy then; it isn't easy now, for any of us.

Pentecost is full of joy and streamers and baptisms and affirmations of our vocations and piņatas because this is the time to do so in the Church year. Is it the only time? No. But it is our community festival time. So let us be glad and rejoice....and wear red!

Blessings,

Jerry

A Conversation with Pastor Florence Kaweesa

in the Assembly Area

Pastor Florence Kaweesa

Pastor Florence  Kaweesa, a Presbyterian minister for the Harvest Time Church in Uganda, Africa, will share her insights regarding her ministry with her congregation and the hundreds of orphans that she and her husband are looking after. They are in the midst of building a school which will house and educate 1000 orphans. It is a challenging task and a challenging ministry when there are limited resources, labor and funds and little support from their Ugandan government. Come learn about the history of Uganda, the political wars during the 60's-80's and how this country is trying to heal and how Florence and her husband are doing their part to bring healing and ministry to their hurting part of the world. This will be a fascinating conversation that you won't want to miss!

Friday, June 6, 6:30-8:30pm in the Great Hall

Everyone is invited to join in and have some fun! Our inaugural meeting was great fun and we are all looking forward to this Friday to have another go! We played Apples to Apples and Loaded Questions, but didn't get around to a whole stack of others. Pick what you enjoy playing and start a game; we don't all have to play the same one. We can make coffee or you can bring your own beverages. Folks have brought snacks for themselves and to share - it's up to you! For more information, please contact Wendy Mustain via email: wmustain.trinitycathedral@gmail.com.

Tour of Loaves and Fishes

Tuesday, June 10, 9:30am

The Cathedral has long supported Loaves & Fishes, and yet many have never had the chance to visit their complex. I can fix that! Please join me on Tuesday, June 10th at 9:30 am for a tour of the Loaves and Fishes complex created especially for members of the Cathedral.

In addition to meals, this comprehensive ministry to the homeless includes a Memorial Park dedicated to homeless people who have died, Mustard Seed School for children, Maryhouse Womens' Shelter, Friendship Park providing daytime respite facilities, Family Promise day services, and a huge receiving and storage area.

If you'd like to carpool, please meet at the Cathedral at 9:00 am, and we should arrive back by noon. As this is a special tour for members of the Cathedral, please RSVP by emailing Deacon Steve at deaconskiff@gmail.com so we can let the good folks at Loaves know how many to expect.

Floyd School Brunch
2013 Floyd School Luncheon
All volunteers and secret pals are  especially encouraged to come to the Floyd School luncheon on Friday, June 13.

It is so nice for the staff to be able to meet their secret pal and thank them. So if it is at all possible please come. If you are a secret pal and you are working, if you could come for a few minutes  at noon to meet your secret pal that would be wonderful. We will give you a quick bite and send you on your way.

Thank you to all who have been secret pals and been a source if encouragement to your staff member during the school year. They need a lot of support.

Please bring a salad, if you can, to share for the luncheon. Drinks and dessert will be provided.

Please RSVP to Nancy Tennyson at 916-481-3546 or nntennyson@gmail.com. We need to know how many to plan for.

Thank you for all you do to help the children of Floyd School.

Ordinations at Trinity

God now calls you to a special ministry of servanthood directly under your bishop.

BCP pg 543 Ordination of a Deacon

By virtue of Church tradition and our ordination vows Deacons have a special relationship to the Bishop. For this reason Bishop Beisner has chosen to have all diaconal ordinations (of deacons and transitional deacons) at the Cathedral.

This year diaconal ordinations will be held on June 14 and 28.

On June 14 Bishop Beisner will ordain Kathryn Wallace of St. Barnabas Church in Mt. Shasta. Kathryn completed her studies at the School for Deacons in Berkeley and was graduated in May. Following ordination she will return to St. Barnabas and serve as the deacon there.

Her ordination is scheduled for 11:00 am. All members of the congregation are invited to attend the service and help welcome the newest deacon in our Diocese.

(Stay tuned for information on the ordination of the transitional deacons on June 28.)
