Upcoming Worship Opportunity at Trinity: Sundays at 7pm
As I sat in the 9:00am service this past Sunday I thought how wonderful it is to participate in something so ancient, so holy, so serious, so joyous week in, and week out. Yet there are other ways I would like to worship. I have been given the opportunity by the Rev. Megan Anderson to be in on the ground floor of creating a new service, this one to be held on Sunday evening. After praying and discerning with others throughout Advent, we came to the conclusion that we will move the Saturday night service to Sunday night at 7pm. In talking to people around the community, this seems to be a better time slot for younger people and those who are away over the weekends.
We are still entertaining many possibilities about how this service could look. For example, we could have Eucharist once or twice a month, but other nights might be devoted to lay person-led reflections of the readings and community discussions of them, or chanting, or a peaceful, candlelit Compline service, or one filled with instrument-accompanied music: old hymns or new songs. These are just a few suggestions of what can happen at Trinity on Sunday evening-a time when Trinity members can come as well as many who do not attend our services but feel a yearning for this type of community. It is our hope that this service and community will be highly collaborative and incorporate many diverse gifts and offerings. A leadership group is needed to plan these services and participate in them. It would be such a gift to have liturgists, poets, artist, musicians, and others join in. If you feel a call, the leadership team will be meeting throughout the month of January on Sunday evenings at 7pm to get to know one another better and to plan the worship services and community structure. We hope to start formally worshipping together at the beginning of February. If you are interested in joining the team please email me at susan_hotchkiss1@hotmail.com or megan@trinitycathedral.org.

Thursday Night at the Cathedral
CLASSES FOR EPIPHANY 1
Beginning January 9
from 7 to 8:30 pm on
January 9, 16, 23, 30 and February 6,
room locations to be announced
First Peter
Presented by the Rev. Dr. Peter Rodgers and four Fuller seminarians.
The First Epistle of Peter is a short and beautiful letter that outlines the heart of Christian faith and life. It is written to Christians in Asia Minor in the first century who are experiencing "suffering for the name of Christ." Peter writes to encourage them to stand fast and live Christ-like lives in the midst of these trials. Rich in Old testament quotations and allusions to the words of Jesus, and their application to God's people, the letter is as relevant today as it was in the days f earliest Christianity. For five weeks we will study together this remarkable letter.
The Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan
Presented by Susan Hotchkiss and Andre Jensen.
Available for purchase in the Trinity Bookshop.
Come join us as we explore Jesus as we've never experienced him before.
"In Zealot, Reza Aslan doesn't just synthesize research and reimagine a lost world, though he does those things very well. Aslan rips Jesus out of all the contexts we thought he belonged in and holds him forth as someone entirely new. This is Jesus as a passionate Jew, a violent revolutionary, a fanatical ideologue, an odd and scary and extraordinarily interesting man." - Judith Shulevitz
Embracing an Adult Faith: Marcus Borg on What It Means to Be Christian
Presented by Rev. Anne McKeever
This is a five-session series for those seeking a richer understanding of issues in contemporary Christian practice and theology: Who was Jesus? Who is God? What is salvation? How do we practice our faith? How do we live in community? Each week we'll view and then discuss a short DVD segment of a lecture and discussion led by Marcus Borg, retired Hundere Chair of Religion and Culture in the Philosophy Department of Oregon State University and the author of nineteen books. Embracing and Adult Faith participant Workbooks will be available for purchase for $10 in class. Some workbooks will be available to check out and borrow for five weeks.
Vaughn Wolff will facilitate a book discussion group on: Law of the Spirit and The Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman.

Inclusionary Housing Ordinance Candle light Vigil
On December 9, over 50 individuals from ACT, Sacramento Housing Alliance and many community organizations and supporters, traveled to the Roseville headquarters of the North State Building Industry Association (BIA). Cars honked their support of our gathering as community members shared spirited testimonies about the importance of safeguarding the Sacramento County Inclusionary Housing Ordinance.
