| Greetings!
Upcoming Worship Opportunity at Trinity: Sundays at 7pm
As I sat in the 9:00am service this past Sunday I thought how wonderful it is to participate in something so ancient, so holy, so serious, so joyous week in, and week out. Yet there are other ways I would like to worship. I have been given the opportunity by the Rev. Megan Anderson to be in on the ground floor of creating a new service, this one to be held on Sunday evening. After praying and discerning with others throughout Advent, we came to the conclusion that we will move the Saturday night service to Sunday night at 7pm. In talking to people around the community, this seems to be a better time slot for younger people and those who are away over the weekends.
We are still entertaining many possibilities about how this service could look. For example, we could have Eucharist once or twice a month, but other nights might be devoted to lay person-led reflections of the readings and community discussions of them, or chanting, or a peaceful, candlelit Compline service, or one filled with instrument-accompanied music: old hymns or new songs. These are just a few suggestions of what can happen at Trinity on Sunday evening-a time when Trinity members can come as well as many who do not attend our services but feel a yearning for this type of community. It is our hope that this service and community will be highly collaborative and incorporate many diverse gifts and offerings. A leadership group is needed to plan these services and participate in them. It would be such a gift to have liturgists, poets, artist, musicians, and others join in. If you feel a call, the leadership team will be meeting throughout the month of January on Sunday evenings at 7pm to get to know one another better and to plan the worship services and community structure. We hope to start formally worshipping together at the beginning of February. If you are interested in joining the team please email me at susan_hotchkiss1@hotmail.com or megan@trinitycathedral.org.

| The Backsnack program at Floyd school is short of a few things: top ramen (not the cup kind), tuna fish, and power bars. The volunteers report that all is going well, but they don't need more mac and cheese--they have plenty-- or ramen in cups, as they are too hard to pack in back packs. Your donations of power bars, tuna, and top ramen can be left in the Floyd School barrel at the top of the stairs above the office. Thanks for helping with this important ministry. |

 Trinity Hiking Guild
Dear Hiking Friends,
Thought we would do a favorite for this before Christmas hike, and go out to Consumnes River Nature Conservatory. Should be dry and mild [temps in low to mid 60's]. Will gather at the cathedral at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure. Bring plenty of water and a small lunch [so I won't feel bad when I try to talk everyone to going for good Mexican food after]. Also, those who have already been visited by the cookie and confectionary Santa are expected to share!
Hope to see a good group on Saturday.

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
Saturday, December 21 at 7:30 pm
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service celebrating the birth of Jesus, which is traditionally followed at Christmas. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings, interspersed with the singing of carols, anthems, and hymns.
- Brich an, O schönes Morgenslicht (Christmas Oratorio) - Johann Sebastian Bach
- Christ the Appletree - Stanford Scriven
- An Advent Procession (Veni Redemptor Gentium) - Donald Pearson
- This Little Babe - Benjamin Britten (Cathedral Choristers)
- A Tender Shoot - Otto Goldschmidt
- In the Bleak Midwinter - Harold Darke
- Here is the Little Door - Herbert Howells
- On this day, earth shall ring - H. C. Stewart
- Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich hier - Johann Sebastian Bach
The format was based on an Order drawn up by Edward White Benson (who became the Archbishop of Canterbury) for Christmas Eve 1880 in Truro, England, and has since been adapted and used by other churches all over the world. The best-known version is broadcast annually to millions of listeners around the world from King's College, Cambridge, on Christmas Eve, featuring carols sung by the famous King's College Choir. Please join the Trinity Cathedral Choir and Choristers as we begin our Christmas celebration!
