"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
Greetings! Most people have something they are particularly good at. I like to think of these things as our superpowers. We have superpowers and we can use them for good if we choose. I invite you to not be shy when it comes to considering your superpower. What is it you do well? How can you do that thing, whatever it is, in order to bless others? One of the roles of a church is to help people use their superpowers. We connect people with diverse gifts to ministries that bring Christ's love to a broken world. Together we can accomplish great things. This is evident in our Wednesday night dinners. Although we only started these dinners a few years ago, we are now serving hundreds of meals each month. Last night we had 170 guests eat dinner and spend the night. There are people who travel significant distances to have dinner at Trinity Cathedral. Many of them come not only for the food - sometimes is it just a simple sandwich - but also because this is a place of warm welcome and kind conversation. It is remarkable how important a kind environment can be when living on the streets. These dinners happen because people with gifts for cooking, serving, cleaning, shopping and being hospitable join together. And they have fun doing so. But there are many other ways people use their diverse gifts: flower arranging, bread baking, shawl knitting, praying, listening, and teaching, to name a few. Because of the remarkable gifts of everyone involved, Trinity Cathedral has multiple superpowers. We pray well. We are great at hosting memorial services for non-members and members alike. We have an important ministry of hospitality to 12-step groups that are responsible for saving people's lives. We care for each other when life becomes difficult. And we are very good at eating together. The parish dinners we host are always lovely and fun. Last year we added a dinner to our list of annual events: our fall dinner. This is a catered dinner hosted by the Vestry as an offer of gratitude to all of the members of Trinity that make this congregation the special place it is. This year the dinner will be on October 12. If you want to attend, please sign up on one of the table sheets posted in the Great Hall. If you can't get to the church to sign up, simply call the office and we will sign you up. Blessings, Brian
The Very Rev. Dr. Brian Baker Dean, Trinity Cathedral Sacramento, CA

Community Dinner and
Safe Ground Ministries
Trinity Cathedral's Safe Ground and Community Dinner ministries provide food and shelter for hundreds of men and women each month. Since the beginning of 2013, nearly 3,000 men and women have enjoyed a meal and a place to rest.
These ministries succeed because of the buildings, tables, chairs, restrooms, kitchen, electricity, water and other services paid for from compassionate giving by Cathedral members. Many volunteers donate hundreds of hours annually. Our guest and our volunteers thank you for your financial support.

Choral Evensong TONIGHT
The Cathedral Choir will sing our first Choral Evensong service for the season tonight, Thursday, September 26th at 6:00 pm. This short music-filled evening service consists of psalms, canticles, scripture readings, and prayers. Using the majestic language of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, it is a time to let go of the busy-ness of the day, and meet God in a meditative way. In the liturgical calendar, we will commemorate Lancelot Andrewes, a seventeenth century English Bishop, and the choir will sing music by Thomas Attwood Walmisely, John Goss, and John Sanders.
Please join us!

Thursday Night at the Cathedral
6:00pm - Choral Evensong
6:15pm - TNAC Dinner ($7:00)
7:00pm - TNAC Classes
The Bible Challenge: Facilitators - Randy Knutson and Rhonda Canby, in the Conference Room.
It's never too late to start reading the Bible-a little bit every day, with Sundays off - and then to discuss the readings with a group of cheery, open-minded folks on Thursday evenings. Pick up a list of the Bible Readings in the Trinity Bookshop and bring the list and a Bible of your choice to learn the benefits of regular Bible reading and sharing.
The Sermon on the Mount by Emmet Fox: Facilitated by Vaughn Wolff, in the Trinity Bookshop
Vaughn will be continuing the New Thought class. For those who are not familiar with Fox's writings you may begin with his essay on the Lord's Prayer in this book. Last year's class was inspiring and motivating. Everyone participated in the discussions and experienced incredible insights.
THE BIBLE: An Eight Hour DVD Series produced by the History Channel is facilitated by the Rev. Anne McKeever in the Assembly Area.
Haven't seen a Bible movie since The Ten Commandments or Veggie Tales? Lots has changed in the way Holy Scripture can come alive in film.
Rev. Anne McKeever will share the complete, ten-hour series through December 5th in the Assembly Area.
Come join us as we read a little scripture, view an episode and then discuss what we've seen. This will be the easiest way you've ever learned anything about the Bible. No homework! No stress! Just pure entertainment, critical viewing and lively discussion.

Choirs to be commissioned this Sunday
This Sunday morning, at the 9:00 and 11:15 services, we will recognize and commission the extraordinary musicians who lead our worship at Trinity Cathedral. Choir members spend hundreds of hours each year rehearsing and singing for services, and this is our chance to honor their commitment to excellence.
 | | Jim Beskeen |
The Celebration Choir and Cathedral Choristers will sing at the 9:00 service, and the Cathedral Choir will sing at the 11:15 service. At 11:15 we will also recognize Jim Beskeen, who has recently retired after more than three decades of choir service.
Please join us this Sunday, as we celebrate music at Trinity Cathedral!

Capital Region Connect:
Employment Connect and Homeless Connect
Friday, October 25
This year marks the first annual Capital Region Connect, an event aimed to improve the lives of those experiencing homelessness by connecting individuals with needed employment and supportive services. Capital Region Connect is comprised of two events: Employment Connect and Homeless Connect.
Employment Connect is a unique job-fair designed to link ready-to-hire participants with employers who are ready and willing to hire. This job fair is built upon collaboration, support, and the understanding that in order to end homelessness, the community must address systemic causes, one of which is unemployment.
Homeless Connect is modeled after Project Homeless Connect, originating in San Francisco in 2004. Homeless Connect is a distinctive event, as it provides a myriad of services to individuals experiencing homelessness in a "one-stop shop" fashion. Homeless Connect emphasizes hospitality and creates an environment where individuals feel comfortable accessing services on their path toward stability.
Capital Region Connect will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013. For more information about this event and how to get involved, please contact Anira Khlok, Information and Program Coordinator at akhlok@sacstepsforward.org.
