Greetings!Brian Baker

One of the most significant blessings of my time at Trinity Cathedral has been the opportunity to work with, and learn from, Canon Grant Carey.

Grant combines a kindness and graciousness with a profound wealth of knowledge of the Episcopal Church and the Cathedral.  He has been a steadfast presence in our worship services as well as in the office and newcomers classes.

In the past months Grant has had to scale back his involvement because of health reasons.  I have missed his regular presence at Trinity -- and I can't just pop into his office to have a question answered.   Hopefully Grant will be feeling well enough to participation in our services, but he likely won't be resuming his office hours.

We will be honoring Grant this Sunday in the bookshop.  Cherie Chamness, our bookshop manager, has created "Canon Carey's Corner" with a comfy chair and a reference library of some of Grant's books.  It will be dedicated this Sunday, at 10:30, hopefully with Grant present.  Please join us for the dedication and celebration.

Last Sunday we welcomed The Rev. Kathy Hopner as our director of Youth and Family Ministries. She comes to us with seven years of experience serving in a similar capacity in the Reno area.  She also has an undergraduate degree in child development and an M.A. in education.   Kathy brings significant gifts and a great deal of energy and I look forward to seeing her ministry unfold.

Please join me in welcoming Kathy as well as thanking Amy Dierlam, who served as our interim director of Youth and Family Ministries over the summer.

This is a time of significant transition for the cathedral and I invite your prayers for the staff and lay leaders.

Blessings,

Brian

Education for Ministry

SCHOLARSHIP FUND GROW

Thanks to many generous donors, Trinity's EfM Scholarship grew to $1,400 in just two weeks. This means several Trinity parishioners will benefit from partial scholarships, making it possible for them to enroll in another year of this challenging class about the Bible, history, theology and ethics. Tuition is $350 a year. Please write a check in any amount payable to Trinity Cathedral with EfM Scholarship Fund in the memo line. Thank you so much.

This week second year EfM participant, Georgianna Pfost, shares her Good News:

I've found EfM is a great way to learn more (much more!) about our scriptures, theology, and church history. And if you've ever thought you'd like to attend a seminary but didn't have the time or money to do so, EfM is a "mini-version" you can do right here at Trinity.  The new scholarship fund will help ensure all parishioners who wish to participate can afford to do so.

RMEC logo Recovery Weekend is Coming to Trinity:

September 14 and 15 at All Services

Very few people can say "I have never been affected by alcohol or drug addiction-either my own or that of a person I love."

How do we know that we ourselves, or the people we love, need help?

How is it possible to lead a full and happy life without using drugs or alcohol?

How has the transformative power of God's healing love enabled millions of people to experience resurrection, finding new life in recovery?

Come hear our homilists, all Trinity parishioners in recovery, share their perspectives on recovery and sobriety at all five services: 5:10 pm on September 14, and 7:30, 9, 11:15 am and 12:45 pm on September 15.

You are encouraged to bring with you to Trinity September 14 or 15 a friend or relative who could benefit from hearing the Holy Spirit's message of hope and healing.

If you would like to participate in one of the services as a reader or homilist or if you would like to help between services at an information table with resources from Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church and various 12-Step organizations, please contact Rev. Anne McKeever at

amckeever@wavecable.com.
