TRINITY EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL
e-News
"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
Greetings!
Greetings!
I write to you at the end of my second full day on the job here at Trinity. It seems hard to believe that I was ordained to the transitional diaconate in this very cathedral just 3 days ago. Thank you for hosting such a welcoming and beautiful celebration. I will treasure the day always. I am just thrilled to be joining the clergy staff here.
I just relocated to Sacramento from New Haven Connecticut where I attended seminary at Yale Divinity School. While I am new to Sacramento, I have always called California home. I grew up in Fairfield and attended college at UC Davis. Born and raised in the Episcopal Church, I first sensed a call to ordained ministry in my early teens through spiritual experiences in church community and leadership involvement in youth programs. Deeper discernment after college led me to Boston to serve in the Episcopal Service Corps before seminary.
During my Master of Divinity studies, I ministered to parish and campus ministry communities in New Haven and served on a number of wider Episcopal Church bodies including the Episcopal Evangelism Network and the Standing Commission on Mission and Evangelism. I am deeply passionate about faith community formation in the church, and creatively engaging the riches of Episcopal faith in new contexts and communities outside of church walls.
My primary responsibilities at Trinity include serving as pastor to the young adults in the congregation, and developing ways to connect Christ's love to people outside the church. Highlights of this ministry include engagement with the Holyasana meetings every 2nd and 4th Thursday evening at the Zuda Yoga Studio, and gathering leaders to explore possibilities connected to the current Saturday evening service. Additionally I will be responsible for the youth ministry program and will participate in the liturgical and pastoral life of the church.
While this is only the beginning of my ministry at Trinity, I have already met an abundance of amazing people and I have learned so much about the rich community life at the Cathedral. I look forward to getting to know more of you soon. If you would like to have a conversation about this ministry, or would like to get involved, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
With gratitude,
Megan

Trinity Opens Cooling Center
A Note From Deacon Steve
With local temperatures hitting upwards of 110 degrees this week we have opened the Great Hall from Monday through Thursday this week during the hours of 2 to 7pm as a Cooling Center for anyone who needs it.
Trinity has long served many communities in need, and when the weather reports came out we knew how to respond. We opened on Monday with very short notice and so our friends from the Safe Ground community stepped up and helped us with staffing. The Sacramento Office of Emergency services responded to my requests for assistance by recruiting volunteers from the wider community to help with staffing for Tuesday through Thursday. I was grateful for their assistance and even more pleased that Trinity has built yet another bridge to local agencies.
This all leads me to another subject. My fellow Deacon, Virginia, and I have been thinking of developing a method of sending out notices for events and situations that require an immediate response. This current heat wave is a good example of that, but it could also be used to turn out folks for meetings with public officials, demonstrations of 'silent witness', response to emergencies and other such public evidence of the values we feel called to by our faith. We'll be letting you know more on that idea in the near future, but for now we want to again thank you again for all your ministries that make Trinity such a strong witness to the love and compassion shown to us by God and taught to us by His son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
