Dear (Contact First Name),
Finding My Way...
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. (From "Through the Year with Thomas Merton")

One of the gifts the Church gives her clergy is a time of Sabbath rest. It is a chance to recharge the batteries, calm the pace, and find peace for the soul. The need for what to do with this gift of time has changed throughout my ministry. I look for things that will draw me closer to God's heart, opportunities that will put me into a deeper connection to this strange vocation to which I have been called. My last sabbatical in 2006/7 gave me both family time and a chance to visit the British Isles. It was a time of deep rest and I am still benefiting from that gift.
Now, some seven years later, I am off again, splitting the three months allotted between two years. On June 18, I will leave and fly to Madrid to begin walking the Camino de Santiago beginning in St. Jean de Pied (France) and ending in Santiago de Compostela at the Cathedral of St. James (Spain). It is a historic pilgrimage covering five hundred miles across Northern Spain. (Updates on my trip will be available on Trinity's Facebook page.) Next summer I will take the final month's leave and spend time with Pat and our canine companions. Those plans are still in the making.
I was drawn to walking the Camino after watching the movie, "The Way." It's a poignant story of a father and son and their reluctant struggle to understand each other and to find themselves. I commend it to your viewing but warning: It may lead you to REI and the purchase of a backpack!
I think we are all on a Camino to discover God and God's unconditional love for us. Sometimes the pace of life becomes so hectic that our spiritual journey towards God's heart gets sidelined. I have discovered that to put that longing back on track I need to create some extraordinary opportunity. Sunday and mid-week Eucharists are part of that plan. Praying the Ignatian Exercises and now walking the Camino are part of that plan. Our worship life together at the Cathedral reminds me of the life God intended. The work of our vestry and laity are keeping me mindful that my purpose in life is to alleviate human suffering and to provide a vehicle for that to happen.
This season of Pentecost gives us all a chance to imitate Jesus in the daily stories that surround us. The gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost enables us to make a difference and to notice the life we are living.
Sabbaticals are a gift from the Church. I'm grateful to Dean Baker, The Rev. Anne McKeever, The Rev. Bob Phillippi, the Vestry, members and friends of the Cathedral for making my absence possible. Thanks to Bruce Roy, Merrill Starr, Sue Clark and all who individually have backed me with gifts of love and prayer this journey that is before me.
May the desire of your heart that leans you towards God bring you joy, peace, and mercy for one another.
Buen Camino, my dear friends,
Lynell+
The Rev. Lynell Walker
Canon Pastor

Renovating the Church Nursery
"A wonderful way to say farewell to Nancy Tennyson"
Canon Nancy Tennyson has spent much of her church life at Trinity Cathedral promoting Christian education and encouragement from toddlers to college-bound young adults. As she retires from her position as Director of Christian Education, it would be a thoughtful and needed gift for the congregation to provide a remembrance of Nancy's leadership. To that end a proposal was made to renovate the church nursery to spruce it up for the next generation of children coming to Trinity.
We are asking that each member of Trinity Cathedral make a donation to this project. Ruth Fitch our Junior Warden, will be in charge of the renovation project and has designed plans for new floors, cabinetry and wall designs, depending on the funds raised.
Please be generous and make checks payable to Trinity Cathedral, with a notation: Nursery Renovation. For further questions, contact Rob Stoinoff at 916 372-3563 or see him during the coffee hour on Sundays. |

"The Way"
Thank you all - Camino support drive for Canon Walker draws wonderful response.
Who would have thunk it?? Memorial Day weekend, with its myriad activities competing for our time and attention, brought a hearty response on Trinity Sunday in support of Lynell Walker's upcoming sabbatical, walking the Camino this summer. We already have over one hundred signatures on her backpack that she will carry on "The Way" to Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.
Special thanks go out for your prayers, blessings and financial support to lighten her load and keep us ever present in spirit while she makes this pilgrimage following in the steps of Saint James. Special recognition of this effort will be made this Sunday, June 2, where we will bless Lynell and wish "God speed" in health and safety as she traverses over 500 miles on foot en route to the holy shrine and burial site of Santiago from June through August.
For those who have yet to take the opportunity to sign her backpack or to contribute to this effort, you can do so at the Camino display set up in the fellowship hall after services this Sunday.
Any questions or suggestions can be directed to Bruce Roy at cell/text (916)230-9495 or email to barinsac@comcast.net |

Integrity Members at the 2012 Pride Parade |
Sacramento Pride Parade and Festival
Saturday, June 15, 10 - noon
Downtown Sacramento (assembly location TBD)
Please RSVP to shireenmiles@comcast.net
Please join Trinity Cathedral's delegation by marching with other members of our congregation in the 2013 Pride Parade, always a great way to let our community know that we are a warm and wonderful "Believe Out Loud" welcoming parish. If you want to have fun, and feel loved and appreciated, come out for this event. The LGBTQ community has often been received with hostility by Christian churches-our witness that Trinity welcomes ALL is a powerful and moving manifestation of God's love. ALL ARE WELCOME. Don't miss it!
Besides strong representation from Sacramento's faith community, other parade participants have included the Wells Fargo Bank Stagecoach, PG&E, Regional Transit, SMUD, Sacramento Police and Fire.
The festival follows the parade. Entrance is $10 per person, which is the major fundraiser for Sacramento's Gay & Lesbian Center, which offers many services to Sacramento's LGBTQ community, including educational projects and support groups for youth.
