"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
|
Greetings!
I am happy to announce that we are being blessed with a new staff member. Thanks to a grant from the Diocese, we will be hiring The (soon to be) Rev. Megan Anderson who will focus on our ministry with young adults. Let me tell you a little about her and then I'll mention some of the things she will be working on.
 | |
Megan Anderson |
Megan is a native of Northern California having grown up in Fairfield. After earning her BA in Religious Studies from UC Davis, she accepted a position with the Episcopal Service Corps in Boston. While there, Megan worked for an education non-profit and trained in community organizing. After a year of service, she moved to Connecticut to attend seminary at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. During her Masters of Divinity studies, she ministered to parish and campus ministry communities in New Haven and served on a number of wider Episcopal Church bodies including the Episcopal Evangelism Network and the Standing Commission on Mission and Evangelism. Megan is deeply passionate about faith community formation in the church, and creatively engaging the riches of Episcopal faith in new contexts and communities outside of church walls. Megan has an older brother who works as a Public Defender in New Orleans, and a younger sister who works in technology startup in Santa Barbara. In her free time, Megan most enjoys hosting conversations, traveling, baking, and taking dance classes.
Megan's responsibilities will primarily focus on articulating the gospel in ways that are compelling to people younger than me. It is clear that the world is changing in many ways and we need to be able to proclaim Jesus' love, inside and outside the church, in ways that connect with younger generations. Megan's primary responsibilities will be to be the pastor to the young adults in the congregation and to develop ways to connect Christ's love to people outside the church. Megan will also be responsible for our youth ministry and will participate with the other clergy in the liturgical and pastoral life of the church.
Megan will be ordained to the Transitional Diaciaonate on June 29 and will begin her work with us on July 1. I look forward to welcoming her and I know she will be a blessing to Trinity Cathedral and Sacramento.
Blessings,
Brian
The Very Rev. Dr. Brian Baker Dean, Trinity Cathedral Sacramento, CA

ACT Town Meeting
May 22, 2013, 6:30-8:30 pm St. Mark's United Methodist Church
2391 St. Marks Way, Sacramento
Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT) brings together congregations and policy makers to advocate for social change. Trinity Cathedral is proud to have been one of the founding congregations of ACT. At Trinity, our organizing committee is known as Trinity ACT or T-ACT. Based on the many one-on-one interviews we conducted last spring, we determined that our priority should be the root causes and solutions to homelessness.
Trinity Cathedral already does a great job ministering to the day-to-day needs of of the homeless with our community dinners, Safe Ground sleep ins, Family Promise hosting, and our on-going support of River City Food Bank. T-ACT hopes to go even further: our goal is to end homelessness in the Sacramento area.
Follow this link to read the 10 Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness Status Report for 2013.
On May 22nd, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2391 St. Marks Way (in the Arden-Arcade area), we will hold a community meeting with city and county officials. Other congregations working on health care and blight will join us. Together, we will ask for commitments to support the most promising local city and county initiatives to address homelessness, end blight in our neighborhoods, and increase access to health care under the new Affordable Care Act for those who currently lack coverage.

Arthritis Walk
Saturday, May 18 at the Capitol
Newcomer Charis Hill is recruiting teammates and funds for her team, Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), for the Arthritis Walk.
Charis was just recently diagnosed with A.S., a rare form of Rheumatoid Arthritis, and is hoping to fund a possible cure for the disease. Ankylosing Spondylitis affects around 1% of the population (a very small number are females); it affects the whole body but is famous for a characteristic fusing of the spine in a fixed, immobile position. Charis suffers from acute, constant pain in her hips and low back as well as other parts of her body during flare-ups; she also finds it difficult to fill her lungs on a consistent basis because her rib cage has likely been partially fused to her spine.
Charis is seeking people to join her team and help raise money for the walk, as well as walk with her on the 18th (either 1 mile or 3 miles). There is no registration fee, and those who raise over $100 earn a free t-shirt for their efforts. To register for her team and/or donate, visit: http://sacarthritiswalk.kintera.org/charis or send her an email at this.is.charis@gmail.com. |
