Thursday Night
New Service, New Time!
Candlelight Compline
6:00pm
After much thought and discussion, Trinity's Worship and Music Ministry Team is changing the format and time of our Thursday night worship at the Cathedral. Beginning April 4, 2013, our Thursday liturgy will change to praying the monastic office of Compline. The word "Compline" means "complete". It is patterned after the monastic office of Compline and serves as the final prayers of the day, helping us to set the noise and chaos of the day to rest. "Lord, you now have set your servant free to go in peace as you have promised." It is a brief 15 minute service held in candlelight. The doors will open at 5:45 for quiet prayer before the service begins. The text for the liturgy can be found in the Book of Common Prayer beginning on page 127. On appointed times we will alternate this time slot with the Cathedral Choir for Choral Evensong. (The next Choral Evensong is May 2nd at 6pm.)
In a world that needs prayers for peace, may the Cathedral become a place where we can open our doors and invite people to share in this ancient monastic prayer.

Genetically engineered salmon
Raise your voice against genetically engineered salmon before April 26.
AquaBounty Technologies is genetically altering salmon with a gene from Chinook salmon so that it can grow to market size in half the time it takes for normal salmon. It is called the AquAdvantage Salmon. How will this impact wild salmon populations and the oceanic ecosystem? Industry promises that GE salmon won't escape, but such promises are empty since previously farmed fish have escaped frequently, and once this becomes a commercial pursuit, it will be hard to monitor. The Food and Drug Administration will take public comment up to April 26th, 2013-check www.ge-fish.org for information about writing to the FDA.
A Green California Summit-April 18-19
There will be an interesting looking 7th Annual Green California Summit held at the Sacramento Convention Center on 1400 J. St. on April 18 and 19. Registration is free for two days of concurrent education sessions, exhibitors, and information on green policy, practice, and technology.
For information and registration: www.green-technology.org/gcsummit/education-program.htm |
Bishop's ConferenceApril 26 and 27
at Trinity Cathedral Presented by The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California and Episcopal Community Services (ECS), next year's event will feature Keynote Speaker Rod Dugliss, PhD, Dean of the School for Deacons, and will highlight existing Social, Economic Health, and Environmental Justice ministries throughout the diocese and perhaps spark a new ministry at your faith community. Adriana is riding in NorCal AIDS Cycle! I will be doing the Northern California AIDS Cycle (NCAC) ride in May. It is a 330 mile bicycle ride over 4 days. I will be riding as part of a team representing the River City Food Bank. It is one of the last major fundraisers that benefits HIV/AIDS organizations in Northern California. When I started attending Trinity Cathedral, I participated as a member of Integrity in a Service of Remembrance for victims of AIDS. It was one of the most moving experiences I have ever had. It is important to note that HIV/AIDS is still an epidemic in the US. Every 9.7 minutes there is a new person infected with HIV. The ride benefits people with meals, housing, healthcare, counseling, compassion and hope. This ride does make a difference in our community. I have started training and I am extremely committed in raising over $2,000. Where does the money go? In addition to the River City Food Bank, many other organizations will benefit, including local and innovative organizations that support youth and adults with HIV/AIDS.I feel especially fortunate that I have always had the support of all of you. I am asking you to contribute and support me in my efforts to meet my goal. Any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated in meeting my goal. Adriana Echandia |
