TRINITY EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL
e-News
"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
|
Greetings!

Hundreds of members of Trinity are reading the entire Bible as part of the Bible Challenge. This is one of the best group spiritual formation activities I have encountered in my ministry. And it is not too late for you to join in. You can see the schedule of readings here: http://www.norcalepiscopal.org/meditations. If you do want to start, I encourage you to begin where we are in the series of readings rather than start from the beginning. There are also groups you could join if you want to discuss your reading with others. Please contact the Rev. Anne McKeever at amckeever@wavecable.com if you would like to join a group.
One of the blessings of this program is many people are wrestling with some of the difficult and challenging things that are found in the Bible. This wrestling invites us into a more mature faith. While I don't expect us to be experts on the Bible after reading through it one time, I do think we will become much better at reading the Bible, particularly if we are discussing our questions with others. To help in this process, I am offering a monthly class on the Old Testament readings. Last Thursday I presented a lecture on Leviticus and Numbers which included a segments on the history of the Old Testament and how to read the Bible. You can find my handout as well as video of the lecture here: http://blogs.deanbaker.org/?p=3305.
Blessings,
Brian

Family Promise
Hosting Week: March 17-24
Many volunteer opportunities still open!! Please consider offering your time and talent during this week!! It could be part of your Lenten Discipline. There are opportunities to prepare a dinner, help with playing / conversing with the families, and / or spend the night. We will have three families this week with children ranging from 16 months to 9 years old.
As I prepare for this week it is clear that a TEAM of at least two others must be recruited to work with me. It requires a Team effort to coordinate the tasks that need to be done in order to assure a successful hosting week. With a team, the week and/or duties could be divided up so that all the responsibility does not fall on one person. WE NEED A TEAM of co-coordinators. Please prayerfully consider, then contact me at lylegramling@comcast.net |

Trinity Takes...
by The Rev. Anne Dryden McKeever,
Director of Youth and Adult Spiritual Formation.
Trinity Bible Challengers are taking their Bibles with them wherever they go, even reading their Bibles in public! Here are some of the places our Bibles have traveled with us since January:
Lynette Munroe: In line at school to pick up my grandchildren; Fiddletown to pick up grandkids; Sutter Creek to my sister's house; Mercy and Sutter hospitals; The Chateau.
Morey Lloyd: I have carried the Bible in my hands, head and heart. The most unusual place has been Trinity Cathedral. I always look for the Hymnal, BCP and the Bible in the pew. Sometimes we use the Hymnal. People of the Book originally meant the BCP, but the BCP had most of the readings therein.
Sonya Reichel: I'm sorry that I don't have any exotic locations to report, but certainly a bunch of very mundane ones! I incorporate the Bible Challenge readings into either morning or evening prayer. I drag my BCP and Bible with me almost everywhere! If I don't have time to do all the readings in the morning at home (which is usually the case), then I bring them to work and out and about running errands. I pray in my car in lots of random parking lots, like at work or home depot or outside my dentist's office, I prayed in the lobby of my dentist's office, I pray in my office at work, I pray while waiting for class to start at CDSP or IBS.
Robert Oakes: Washington DC. San Diego. Los Angeles. San Luis Obispo. Manteca.
Joanne McNabb: Camarillo, CA, visiting my parents
New York City, business trip
Portland, OR, family wedding
Next month: Washington, DC, business
Bill and Cindy Chisum: The Bible went with us and was read in Oregon when we were on our college tour expedition.
Phylis Ehlert: Just my dining room table and the church office.
Tracy Tschanz: Wow! Thank you for thinking that I might actually travel! Does it count if I give you the places I traveled to in my head-dreams? Reality says - Sacramento, CA.

TREE Tip
by Ann Rothschild
Your old Jeans put to Work.
I love to hear of new uses for our ubiquitous waste and of small drives developing into grand programs. Two companies have been working since 2006 to turn used denim into house insulation. Cotton Incorporated, a consortium of cotton growers, manufacturers, and retailers, collected used denim clothes from college student organizations, community groups, retailers like Gap and Guess Jeans, and readers of National Geographic Kids in a fabulously successful drive called "Cotton: Blue to Green" (BtG). It was so successful that they had to stop collecting until they could catch up with the insulation part of the program. Bonded Logic, a cotton insulation manufacturer in Arizona, processes the material into insulation and donates it to Habitat for Humanity affiliates for disaster areas in the U.S. Currently Cotton Incorporated have set up a grant program to distribute the wealth of insulation they have. Architects and builders may apply-see more information at website below.
Bonded Logic's Ultratouch insulation itself is environmentally sound: it does not have formaldehyde or or airborne particulates, does not itch, and is not flammable. It contains an EPA-registered borate solution that is as resistant as fiberglass to mold, fungus, rodents, pests, and fire. It qualifies for 12 LEED credits.
