The River City Food Bank and
NorCal AIDS Cycle
by Canon David Link
As many of you know, for the last two years I have participated in the NorCal AIDS Cycle, a four-day, 330 mile bicycle tour which raises funds for agencies serving those with HIV/AIDS in Northern California. One of the beneficiaries of the ride is the River City Food Bank, who works with C.A.R.E.S. (Center for AIDS Research, Education, and Services) in providing groceries to their patients who are having difficulty making ends meet. I ran into Eileen Thomas the executive director of RCFC a few months ago, and she asked if I would be interested in putting together a NCAC team sponsored by the food closet. And River City Roadies was born!!
Team River City Roadies includes two other Trinity Cathedral members, Gayle Monroe and Adriana Echandia. Adriana, Gayle and I could use YOUR support in raising funds through NorCal AIDS Cycle, to support the excellent agencies such as the River City Food Bank, who provide services from those in our community suffering from HIV/AIDS.
Click on the link below to make general team donation, or to make a donation to an individual rider. And we thank you in advance for your support!

Trinity Takes...
by The Rev. Anne Dryden McKeever,
Director of Youth and Adult Spiritual Formation.
It's never too late to take the Bible Challenge! All you need is a Bible, the list of readings and meditations available at www.norcalepiscopal.org/meditations, and the commitment to spend fifteen to thirty minutes a day reading and praying.
Your opening prayer can be as simple as: "Dear God, Help me to find a connection between what I read in the Bible and what's happening in my own life." Or you can conclude your reading with this prayer: "Gracious God, thank you for opening my eyes to _____________in the scripture I read today."
There's no need to start at the beginning of the list with the readings for Day One. Just start with the readings for the day you choose to begin. The online resource above will guide you to read three chapters of the Old Testament, one Psalm and one New Testament chapter. This list is also available in printed form at the Welcome Center and in the Bookshop.
Give it a one-week trial during Lent and see where it takes you on your spiritual journey.
Rev. Anne McKeever

TREE Tip
By Ann Rothschild
More on Junk Mail
www.41pounds.org sent me six postcards to stamp and mail to marketing companies.
They advised:
- Do not share addresses and phone numbers with companies, and if you do, request in writing that the company will not sell or share your information.
- Do not use supermarket club cards-they track your spending habits for marketing purposes.
- Request charities not to sell or share your information.
- Avoid sending in warranty cards, which are designed to collect marketing info. If you do send one in, write on it "Do not sell or share my information."
- Beware change of address forms at the post office. The Post Office sells this information. Use a temporary mail-forwarding form to redirect your mail, and inform all relevant people yourself.
It irks me to work so hard to fend off predatory business practices, but I guess that's part of living responsibly in a free society-democracy is not for wimps!
Washing out those recyclables?
Kay Kosinski-Duren asked: Are we overusing water to wash out our recyclables? Actually, Sacramento Waste Management does require clean/food free recyclables, but one can minimize water waste by putting several items in a bowl of used washing up water and swilling quickly before putting in the recycle bin.
Follow this link for an excellent discussion of this. |
