"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
|
I love Advent. I suppose I should lament the business of this time and the dangers of being distracted from Jesus being the "reason for the Season," but I like Advent too much to be negative. I like the decorations that are going up, the nights that are growing darker, and the need to bundle up a little more. I appreciate the many opportunities to experience beautiful music, like with tonight's choral compline or tomorrow night's concert. I appreciate the many opportunities to serve others, like getting gifts for a child or family at Floyd School or donate items for our weekly ingatherings. I like the greening of the Cathedral that requires lots of people to work together so we can make the Cathedral stunningly beautiful for all our Christmas guests. I also appreciate the special opportunities to grow in faith. Last Saturday we had a great men's retreat and this Saturday we will have a retreat at the Mercy Center in Auburn that is open to everybody. There is something about this season that opens my heart a little more. I am a little more sensitive to the movement of God's spirit in the world and in my life. I'm also a little more sensitive to the sadness that people carry with them. For me this is a time to be open-hearted toward those around me as I prepare for Christ to come once again and enter our broken, messy, tragic, beautiful, and gracious world. Blessings, Brian The Very Rev. Dr. Brian Baker Dean of the Cathedral P.S. I'm teaching a class at 7pm tonight on the history of the Bible. I will be going over the history that is contained in the Bible as well as talking about how the Bible was created and adopted. The class will follow a great dinner at 6:15. |

Thank You Trinity!
Thanksgiving Day at Trinity was a great blessing! Not only due to the beauty of the day itself, but because the members of Trinity offered kindness in feeding some of us who had no offerings of friends, family or food on this day that is to be a celebration of friends, family and food. Trinity Cathedral stepped forward to feed nearly 60 people in the community a wonderful meal that had everything in it that some of the best restuarants offer! Ours though had the exception of coming from kindness and acknowledging the need to reach out and open doors. Thank you!
Sally Smith and myself would like to give thanks to all of the volunteers who came to spend their day or a couple of hours helping to set tables and offer friendship - thank you!

Labyrinth Ministry:
Would You Like to Carry It On?
Trinity Cathedral has had a Labyrinth ministry for a number of years. Currently people are able to walk and pray the Labyrinth on the third Friday of the month at 6:00PM. The date and time can be changed if we are able to find a regular day and time of the week. Trinity's Labyrinth is canvas. Overseeing this type of prayer time involves getting to Trinity one hour before the scheduled start, rolling out the canvases, setting the environment with candles and meditative music and putting everything away at the end of the prayer time. The total time commitment (with a one hour prayer time that can be extended if desired) is three hours. One person has expressed an interest in continuing this ministry but needs at least two others to work with him. Is that you? If so, please contact Jerry Paré at the office (jpare111452@gmail.com; 916-930-8032) |

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
Here's a wonderful way to get in the Christmas spirit! Bring the whole family to see a delightfully funny play titled, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," directed by Michael Walker of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Carmichael. The play is certainly not about your typical Christmas pageant . . . it is a pageant that is invaded by the Herdman's who are "the worst kids in the whole history of the world." What chaos . . . and joyful moments result!
Two performances only with dessert reception after each performance:
Saturday, December 8 at 7 PM Sunday, December 9 at 2 PM
Performance Location: St. Michael's Church, 2140 Mission Avenue, Carmichael
