Greetings!
Brian Baker

The first annual Fall dinner we had last Saturday night was amazing. The food was delicious and it was clear people were having a good time. I would like to thank Burt Douglass, Cherie Chamness, Tom Robbins, the members of the vestry and all the others who worked so hard to make the dinner a success.

It is important that we gather together for fun and fellowship. We have some more opportunities to do so coming up in the next few weeks. Pumpkin Night is Sunday, October 28. It is a lovely evening which includes pumpkin carving, a dinner with pumpkin soup (and other soups for the pumpkin averse) and a procession and blessing of jack-o-lanterns in the Cathedral. Everybody is welcome. You don't have to be a child or part of a family with children. You don't even have to carve a pumpkin. You can simply come and enjoy watching the activity.

Also, Cherie Chamness is organizing weekly dinners for Thursday night. A few weeks ago our weekly homeless meal moved to Wednesday nights, which created an opening on Thursday night. Cherie has recruited chefs and will be launching a catered dinner on Thursday nights. The costs for this meal will be $7 and they will start on November 8.

I hope you are able to join us as we gather and support one another in community.

Blessings,
Brian

Reflections Weekly Reflection

Trinity Cathedral parishioners are writing weekly reflections during the Season after Pentecost. These reflections remind us that stewardship involves more than our financial contributions. Stewardship is also about discovering our own calling to reflect the image of God into the world in which we find ourselves. This week's reflection:

Stephen MinistryStephen Ministry Workshop

Saturday, October 20, 9:00am - 1:00pm

At Trinity Cathedral

Want to learn to care for people who are grieving and reach out to others in a distinctively Christian way?

This half-day workshop is designed both to enhance participants' caregiving skills and to help congregations explore ways to expand their caring ministry. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., and refreshments will be served.

One reason we're so excited about helping other congregations learn about Stephen Ministry is that it is making a significant difference in the life of our own congregation. Since we began Stephen Ministry in 1977, over 300 laypeople have gone through 50 hours of training in order to provide quality one-to-one Christian care to hurting people. If you think you might be interested in being a Stephen Minister, attending the workshop is a great way to learn more.

Members of Trinity are invited to attend the workshop free of charge. However, it is still important to pre-register no later than October 12th, so that we will have plenty of materials on the day of the workshop. Please contact Susan Wilson at 835-2799 or email her at snbwilson@gmail.com if you would like to be added to our congregation's list of participants. Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity for personal growth and to learn more about Stephen Ministry.

Hiking Trinity Hiking Guild

Saturday, October 20 meet at 8:45am at the Cathedral

Dear Hikers,

Finally, all healthy at this end and ready to hit the trails.

So, we will continue with our low impact, local hikes by taking in a group favorite to the Consumnes River Preserve, south of Sacramento off of Twin Lakes Road. It is a total 4 mile loop hike and is an elevation gain of about 5 feet, so shouldn't challenge anyone. Bring plenty of water [remember, the best time to hydrate is before you start on the hike, not when you get thirsty].

We will meet at the cathedral at 8:45 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. departure. We should be back at the cathedral at 1:30 p.m. at the very latest, so those with plans in the early afternoon can make them both.

Hope to see a good group for this walk.

Choral Evensong for All Saints Day
Thursday, November 1 at 6:00pm

Cathedral Choir Join the Cathedral Choir as we celebrate the Feast of All Saints. Included will be music by Healey Willan and Iain Quinn, and the spectacular anthem "Let all mortal flesh" by Sir Edward Bairstow.

Evening Prayer, according to the Book of Common Prayer, is a service that has deep roots in the worship of the church. It is mainly derived from the monastic offices in the middle ages, but it also has features that go back to the earliest period of the Christian church. The heart of the service is the regular recitation of the Psalms, and the systematic reading from the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

As is customary in churches with a choral tradition, the service is adorned with musical settings of the psalms, canticles, and anthems that come from the great repertoire of church music from the Renaissance to the present time. The congregation participates through active listening and meditation. Thus we join in offering to God our worship, which is part of a much greater whole: the worship of the Church of God in every part of the world.

Come and finish your day with a beautiful, quiet, and stress reducing service.

Special Veterans Day Remembrance

Sunday, November 11

This year Veteran's Day falls on a Sunday and we would like to honor the day with special prayers in the liturgy and displays of special memorabilia in the Great Hall during the coffee hours. Do you have a special memento, story, photograph, etc. honoring your service or that of a friend, family member, or loved one? We know we have lots of men and women veterans in the congregation, from World War II to active duty personnel serving at home and abroad today, not to mention memories and mementos from earlier times and conflicts. Contact Beau Carter (beaucarter2@gmail.com) if you would like to participate and let him know what you plan to bring.

Family PromiseFamily Promise

November 18-25

YES, that is Thanksgiving Week and I will need help. And what a wonderful way for you to give thanks for your abundance - by giving of your time and talent, helping to prepare a warm, safe and welcome space for our three families. The sign-up poster is in the hall next to the bookshop - ready and waiting for your name to be added!!

Thanksgiving I am prayerfully looking for "a few good women/men" to help me with this ministry - being my assistants, if you will, to share the work load. I have been thinking and praying about this for some time. Now is the time to put my thoughts and wishes into action. I need help. If this "speaks" to you I welcome the opportunity to talk with you.
