TRINITY EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL
e-News
"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
|
Dear ,
It's time to play!
I am amazed by the amount of industry at Trinity Cathedral: arranging flowers, rehearsing music, preparing to teach, cooking food, knitting shawls, stitching baptismal stoles, and on and on and on. A remarkable amount of ministry happens because many people are working hard. It is time to have some fun (not that our ministries aren't fun.)
We have two events coming up where we can relax and enjoy one another's company. First is the parish picnic, this Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at Oki Park. It is a great time to relax and be together in fellowship. Barbecued burgers and hot-dogs will be provided. If you come, please bring a sidedish to share.
Second is our first annual fall ministry dinner. This will be a completely catered affair on October 13 at 6 pm. The vestry is hosting this event just so they can thank the members of the congregation for their ministries. Nobody needs to bring any food, drinks or tableware. There will be table hosts to help welcome people to the dinner. Please sign up for the dinner by calling the office during the week or signing up in the Great Hall after Sunday worship.
I hope you can make it to one of these fun events.

 Weekly Reflection
Trinity Cathedral parishioners are writing weekly reflections during the Season after Pentecost. These reflections remind us that stewardship involves more than our financial contributions. Stewardship is also about discovering our own calling to reflect the image of God into the world in which we find ourselves. This week's reflection:

Jed Smith, Our Adopted School
Clothes Closet
As the weather begins to get cooler we will need to have coats, jackets, pants and other warm clothes for the children at the school. We will gladly accept warm clothing for our Clothes Closet in the next months. The children always need underwear and socks, pants and shirts as well. The clothes closet is open on the last Friday of the month. If you are interested in helping you can come to the school on a fourth Friday at 3:00 pm and assist parents with the selection of clothing for their children. The closet closes at 4:00 pm.
Back Snack Program
We also need fruit cups, granola bars, macaroni and cheese boxes, Raman soup and oatmeal packets for the Back Snack program. Please place all of your donations in the barrels by the steps in the Cathedral House.
What YOUR Monetary Donations Have Done...
The school has a new PE teacher named Nadine Nouchi. She requested some play equipment to help support her program. With money that has been donated to the Jed Smith fund by you we were able to buy the needed balls, ball pump, jump ropes and hula hoops to help out. Thank you to all who donate to this project.
Blessings,
Nancy Tennyson |

Yom Kippur
Morey Lloyd presents
"A Whale of a Story" (Jonah)
A Reflection on Jonah
from The Legends of the Jews, by Louis Ginzberg
Jonah is in the fish three days --Why so long?
The belly of the whale is as large and spacious as a synagogue. Jonah was comfortable, with a table, chair, and a light, looking through the eyes of the fish viewing the underworld. He was sent into the fish to learn not to rebel against God's mercy, but, in his torment, he found salvation. That is not what he expected to find. What he found was who God is: "a gracious god and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and ready to repent from the evil He intends to do." If God can repent from the evil He intends to do, so can we, just to be more like God and to be more liking God. I love liking God. |

CREDO Walk and Be Well Program
From the CREDO website: Jesus spent much of his ministry walking. From town to town across Galilee, Samaria and Judea, he walked and talked, in the company of his disciples, his followers and God. CREDO's Walk and Be Well offers a way to follow Jesus both in words and action, with a walking program attuned to both body and soul. The Walk and Be Well reflections in both text and audio are brief guideposts to help you begin your daily walk with one of three CREDO writers: Jackie Cameron, Elizabeth Moosbrugger or Bill Watson. Reflections can be downloaded as podcasts, streamed from the CREDO website and printed as pdfs; use them while walking solely or share them with your walking partner or group. And if you would like to receive your daily reflection by email, just sign up and we will send it to you in the early morning. Walk and Be Well begins on September 30, with an introduction from Jackie Cameron. October 1 begins the walking days, which continue through October 28. The distance and pace is up to you. Walk and Be Well is your opportunity to join other CREDO participants, whether they're in your area or they live far away, in committing to four weeks of walking as a benefit to your physical and spiritual health and well-being. Interested in joining our Trinity Walk and Be Well program? Beginning September 30th, we'll read on our own the online introduction, and then, from October 1 through 28th, we'll commit to read every day the online CREDO Walk and Be Well reflection. Our goal will be to move every day by walking, running, cycling or swimming as we think and pray about the Walk and Be Well daily reflection. No need to set goals of distance or time. Please contact Rev. Anne at amckeever@wavecable.com if you're interested in joining our Trinity Walk and Be Well Team. We'll meet at first via e-mail to pray for and encourage each other. Some participants may wish to find Trinity walking buddies. We can help with this. Ideally, we'll all meet sometime in October to walk together in the Trinity neighborhood, but you are free to move and ponder in your own neighborhood the month of October. |

Youth Mission Gratitude Dinner Big Success Our Sierra Service Project youth missionaries and their parents (some are pictured above) presented a fabulous Mexican feast to thank our supporters last Sunday. Of 120 people donating money to our mission fund, 80 joined us for dinner and a presentation by the students of their mission trip experiences. Special thanks to these parents for donating food and working in the kitchen: Scott and Susan Forde, Catherine and Mike Burchett, Lee Kenwright and Jean Gifford. We are so grateful to Tom Robbins for his kitchen talents and for Mary Hustler for working the reception table. Kudos to Thomas Bush for volunteering his time to help us clean up afterward. Faced with a $1,400 debt from our Summer 2012 Mission Trip to South L.A. in July, I am happy to report that through the generosity of our Trinity Family we have repaid that debt, paid for all the food for the dinner and earned enough to send one student to our Summer 2013 SSP Mission at the Susanville Rancheria next July. With gratitude, Rev. Anne
