FAMILY and YOUTH MINISTRY Youth Sunday - April 22
Youth Sunday is a special day set aside for the youth of the Cathedral to give service to the worship activities that adults usually do. We will have youth preachers, ushers, readers, intercessors and oblation bearers at the 9:00 and 11:15 services. The fourth and fifth Graders will present a Gospel skit. The fifth graders will receive their Bibles as has been a tradition for many years at Trinity. Children and youth who would like to participate in one of the services may contact Nancy Tennyson 916-446-2513 or nntennyson@gmail.com to sign up to do the jobs listed above. We have many young people who do a wonderful job in their chosen roles on Youth Sunday. Be sure to be at church that day to be a part of this wonderful time. Diocesan Baccalaureate Service for Graduating High School Seniors - May 6 at 4:00pm
The strains of Pomp and Circumstance will be heard as the procession of graduates from the class of 2012 enter the Cathedral on May 6. Senior High graduates from around the diocese are invited to worship and celebrate their graduation from high school. Bishop Barry Beisner, Dean Brian Baker and clergy from the graduate's churches will also process. The order of evening worship will included a reflection from Bishop Beisner and an introduction of each graduate. After blessings and the procession out, the graduates will be treated to a festive graduation reception which will include the "Church" chocolate fountain. Please come and be a part of a very important milestone in these young people's lives. Each senior's picture and a short biography are included in the Baccalaureate program. We need by May 1 a picture and a biography of each graduating senior to put in the Baccalaureate Program. Please send a paragraph or two biography of the student with activities he or she has participated in high school, in church and in the community and their goals and future plans. We would also like a wallet size electronic senior picture to accompany the biography. Please send the pictures and biography by May 1 to Pat Underwood, punderwoodtrinity@gmail.com. Pentecost Piñatas - May 27 in the Great Hall at 10:15am Pentecost is the day when we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles- the Spirit that Christ had promised them before His ascension back into Heaven. The name comes from pente, the Greek name for fifty, Pentecost is fifty days after Easter. We celebrate the feast of Pentecost in many ways by reading the Bible in many languages and wearing red, the color of fire. The symbols of the day are a dove denoting the Holy Spirit, wind and fire to describe the small band of believers who were set aflame by the Holy Spirit and the wind to blow the Good News to all parts of the world. At Trinity Cathedral we celebrate the feast of Pentecost with red, yellow and orange piñatas filled with wind toys and red candies. We encourage all children and youth to be in the Great Hall on Pentecost Sunday at 10:15, to continue this great tradition. We have a good time. From our Baptismal Covenant: Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? I will, with God's help. Following the 5:45 p.m. service and right before the 7 p.m. classes, we provide the edible slice of Trinity's Thursday community life. We are a small group of men and women and a boy, and we are old, young and younger. We are retired, working and a student. We are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters and a son. We are friends. We cook and serve meals to everyone who enters the Great Hall. We don't ask for money or ID. We just feed. We feed because Jesus fed the young, the old, men and women and a boy. We feed the working, the unemployed, the retired and a student. We feed those who are physically hungry and those who hunger for community and belonging. We feed. We will feed you. Come Thursday evenings and be fed. We are always welcoming new folks to help by donating food, cooking, serving and sharing the love Jesus so freely shares with us. feed*pray*loveyourneighborasyourself. (TRINITY RESPECTING EARTH AND ENVIRONMENT)
Trinity's 6th Annual Earth Day Fair on April 22 - Come see us throughout the morning in the Courtyard. A famous frog once proclaimed that it's not easy being green ... And we couldn't agree more. But we also know that the need to be good stewards of our environment is more critical now than ever. This year, celebrating Earth Day is as easy as going to church on Sunday, April 22nd at Trinity Cathedral, as TREE hosts our 6th Annual Earth Day Fair. TREE means Trinity Respecting Earth & Environment. Our mission is to raise the consciousness of Trinity Cathedral members about the need to care for God's creation and the earth's environment. In our own small way, we work to protect the earth's ecosystems, safeguard public health, and ensure sustainability in harvesting the earth's resources. The Earth Day Fair will feature displays of environmentally friendly offerings from local companies such as Farm Fresh To You, Hall's Windows, and Solar Cookers International. Tomato plant starts grown by Green Acres Nursery are available. We only ask that if you take one, that you grow, care for, and enjoy the harvest from your plant. You can also check in on the learning corner to watch topical videos of issues facing our planet today. And, you can forget those wasteful and expensive disposable plastic water bottles after you treat yourself to a stylish and eco-friendly aluminum TREE Sports Bottle! All will be available at this year's Earth Day Fair! Show your gratitude for the beauty of God's creation and join us on April 22nd.
