"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Greetings!

BrianTonight begins the Triduum (lit. three days), which is the most holy and significant time in the church year.  While we hold multiple services during the Triduum, liturgically they are considered one single event.  We have three major components to our Triduum, with many other smaller elements available.  The first major component is tonight's Maundy Thursday Service, which focuses on Jesus' Last Supper where he washed his disciples feet, shared his final meal in which he connected the breaking of the bread with the breaking of his body on the cross and then went into the Garden to pray.  ("Maundy" comes from a Latin word meaning "command," as in Jesus commanded his disciples to wash one-another's feet as he was washing their feet.)   After our service, those who want to may go to the East Transept to pray -- joining Jesus in the Garden.  The Maundy Thursday service begins at 5:45pm.

The second major component of the Triduum is the Good Friday service.  We have a vigil service from noon to 3:00p.m. and a Stations of the Cross for children at 2:00pm.  Our primary Good Friday service is at 7:30pm.  On Saturday we have a pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt in the morning, as well as a Holy Saturday service in the Cathedral.

The third major component is the celebration of Christ's resurrection.  Our Easter vigil begins at 7:30pm on Saturday and our Easter Sunday services are at 7:30am, 9:00am, 11:15am and 12:45pm.  The Sunday services will be followed by a gala brunch.

The Triduum is a particularly focused and intense opportunity to enter into the mystery of Christ.  If you can, try to come to the three primary services.  Each begins at 7:30p.m.

NOTE:  Last Sunday I preached a sermon on Christ's passion.  I began the sermon by referring to a question asked by a young man when I was speaking to a group of Yoga teacher trainees.  He was struggling to believe in God when we live in a world filled with so much suffering.  I've posted a video of his question and my response here.

Easter Vigil Reception

Please bring your food contributions to the Great Hall before services begin at 7:30 p.m. We need hosts to arrive by 6:30 pm to set up and plate the food. We need another group of hosts to remain a few minutes following the reception to clean up the area. Services normally run two hours so clean up should begin around 9:30 pm.   Many hands make work light so the more volunteers the easier the tasks.

We anticipate your response will be generous and loving as in the past and we thank you in advance for your participation.

This Sunday

Join us for Easter Breakfast

in the Great Hall

following all of today's services.

Help Needed for Easter Sunday Brunch

We need at least 2 dishwashers to help with the Easter Sunday brunch. If more volunteer, we can stagger the shifts. The brunch will run from about 8:30 (after the 7:30 service) - 1:30 (after the 12:45 service).   Help us to feed the hungry (that would be us)!

Trinity Clean-Up Day Gives Us a Sparkle

Easter Clean-up Day
The Chisum clan (Cindy, Bill, Rebecca & Elizabeth)
spent the day cleaning the kitchen.

THANK YOU! To all of those who braved a stormy Saturday to help clean and spruce up the Cathedral in anticipation of Easter! Kevin Donohue organized and ran the event.  Alan Lovett, Rusty Robinson & Nixon Samabria came early to beat the rain and get some outside work done. Many of us worked on the inside of the Cathedral: John Ochoa, Linda and Bill Mason, Merrill Starr, Ann King, Kevin Sanders, Tracy Tschanz, Tom Robbins, Ben Thomas, Dwight Esch and members of the Altar Guild - Sue Clark & Chris Sanft. The Chisum clan focused on the kitchen and readied it for our Easter Brunch. Nancy and John Tennyson organized the attic storage area (which was in the same state as many attic storage areas).  Nancy Stoltz and Mattie Moody focused on getting easter eggs ready for the Saturday Eggstravaganza, while Ronnie Vaughn used the power washer on the solarium floor. Randy Cheek and Paul Brosio grilled hotdogs for a lunch that kept us going. Thank you for your hard work!

Coming Up

Listening Campaign

We plan to launch a large listening campaign with a goal to find an issue that is of concern to the majority of our church community and than work to make that change. We need interested people who would be willing to come to a training session on April 10 and than make a commitment to talk to 5 people for the next 5 weeks.  We have worked hard to plan and organize our campaign and have included input  and support from clergy and the Vestry.  If you enjoy spending 30 to 40 minutes talking to someone regarding what is on their minds and hearts, we encourage you to come and join us.  We plan to have completed our campaign by the end of May and  than report back to the congregation with the results.

Training date, time and location: Tuesday, April 10 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT) Office,  2510 J St. Suite 200
