TRINITY EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL
e-News
"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
|
Dear (Contact First Name),
Communications is always a challenge in a large congregation. This e-news is probably our best means of communicating and I am grateful that you have subscribed. Kirk Bone, our senior warden, has committed to write an article after each monthly vestry meeting so people can be kept abreast of the decisions that are made. His review of Tuesday's meeting is included in this newsletter.
There are two other things I would like to mention. First, we have raised over $6,500 to help rebuild the Cathedral in Haiti. Our contribution will be joined with the gifts of the other 70 congregations in the diocese and then joined with gifts from many other diocese. It will be great to see the cathedral and school rebuilt, and know we helped make it possible. I am grateful for the work of Susan Van Dyke on this project.
Second, I have chosen to amend our guidelines for hosting homeless people at Trinity. We will no longer be able to accommodate overnight guests who have dogs. We are also asking that when we host Safe Ground, that the guests remain in the Great Hall. Having homeless guests and dogs hanging out in the courtyard had become chaotic. In a few weeks, we should have more lights installed in the courtyard and solarium so it will be easier for people to walk to events when it is dark.
If you have any concerns about our ministries at Trinity Cathedral, please let me know.

March Vestry Meeting
The March Vestry meeting spent time on three subjects:
1. Spiritual Formation
2. Cathedral Finances
3. Consideration of Candidates for Holy Orders
Before we discuss those matters, the Vestry appointed Liz Magill as Clerk. Liz is a skilled scribe and we all should appreciate her outstanding work. Liz's capabilities enable the Vestry to approve the minutes at the end of each meeting which allows for their timely distribution to the Congregation. The approved minutes are posted on the bulletin board in the hallway between the Great Hall and the Book Store.
Spiritual Formation
We began our meeting with Bible study. Adriana, our chaplain, is responsible for leading the discussion. Participation is always robust and thought provoking. Bible study always reminds me of our real purpose in attending Trinity Cathedral.
Finances
We adopted a resolution which transferred approximately $73,000 from what I will call various "rainy day" funds to eliminate the deficit from 2011. The resolution will be posted with the minutes. This deficit was expected and your Vestry had planned for it; while we are only two months into the current year, 2012 should be a better year for the parish. Your Vestry is very mindful of the parish's finances and reviews them at each meeting. The Vestry relies on the work of the Finance Committee for this decision. Please thank Susan Wilson, your Treasurer, and the Finance Committee for their hard work.
Candidates for Holy Orders
We completed our discussions about two Candidates for Holy Orders. The Vestry's practice is take two meetings for this important matter. Your Vestry is a stop along the path for candidates and is an important responsibility of the Vestry. We make recommendations at the beginning of the process, as we did with Susan Van Dyke who is seeking ordination to the priesthood, and at the end of the process, as we did with Virginia McNeely who is seeking ordination to the diacionate. After careful and thoughtful deliberation, we recommended that both candidates move forward in their journey. In these deliberations, the Vestry relies on the work of Congregational Committee on Ministry (CCOM) which is headed by Tom Pace. Please thank them for their outstanding work. Your prayers and support for Susan and Virginia will be appreciated.
The March meeting again reminded me of the special place that is Trinity Cathedral. While the Vestry dealt with two important matters-the budget and Candidates for Holy Orders-our decisions would not have been possible without the hard, virtually anonymous work of the Finance Committee and the CCOM. I encourage you to get involved and participate.

Easter Vigil
This year Easter Vigil falls on Saturday April 7th, it is always a festive time that features baptisms, confirmations and rededications. Hospitality at Trinity is the ministry of every member and the hospitality ministry team will again depend on finger food and desserts contributed by our members for the reception following services.
Please bring your food contributions to the Great Hall before services begin at 7:30 p.m. We need hosts to arrive by 6:30 pm to set up and plate the food. We need another group of hosts to remain a few minutes following the reception to clean up the area. Services normally run two hours so clean up should begin around 9:30 pm. Many hands make work light so the more volunteers the easier the tasks.
We anticipate your response will be generous and loving as in the past and we thank you in advance for your participation. |

Local Organizing Committee Listening Campaign
We plan to launch a large listening campaign with a goal to find an issue that is of concern to the majority of our church community and than work to make that change. We need interested people who would be willing to come to a training session on April 10 and than make a commitment to talk to 5 people for the next 5 weeks. We have worked hard to plan and organize our campaign and have included input and support from clergy and the Vestry. If you enjoy spending 30 to 40 minutes talking to someone regarding what is on their minds and hearts, we encourage you to come and join us. We plan to have completed our campaign by the end of May and than report back to the congregation with the results.
Training date, time and location: Tuesday, April 10 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT) Office, 2510 J St. Suite 200

A big Thank You from Canon Link and the Red BaronThis is an exciting time as the start of NorCal AIDS Cycle grows closer and closer. It's only eight weeks until the ride begins! I want to thank everyone who has supported me in this ride. Your generosity has enabled me to inch closer to my goal of raising $5,000 for this year's ride.

Gayle Monroe |
As some of you may know, my friend and fellow Trinity member Gayle Monroe has decided to join the 330 mile bike ride this year, which is awesome! If you haven't contributed yet, but still want to support the ride, I encourage you to donate in Gayle's name. Simply click here to be taken directly to Gayle's donation site.
It all goes to a great cause... to support Northern California agencies providing services to those suffering from HIV/AIDS... and also to fund programs for education and testing, so that we might eradicate this disease once and for all. Again, thank you to everyone for your generous support!
