"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"

Dean BakerDear (Contact First Name),

Last Saturday was a great day for Trinity Cathedral.  About 120 acolytes from 14 different congregations participated in our Diocesan Acolyte Festival.  The Bishop participated by welcoming everybody, leading workshops and then celebrating and preaching at our closing Eucharist.  Each acolyte participated in three workshops of their choice, had a great lunch and vested and processed for the service.  Since different churches dress their acolytes differently, it was great to see the colorful and diverse procession.  While the acolytes were mostly children, we did have some adult acolytes and plenty of adult chaperones that participated.  We had a group of adults who 2012 Diocesan Acolyte Festivaltraveled all the way from Susanville to bring their one acolyte.  We also had acolytes from St. John the Baptist church in Lodi in the Diocese of San Joaquin.

Hosting such a conference is a huge effort and I am very grateful for the hard work of Brian Kempton, Nancy Tennyson, Brian Nelson, Susan Forde, Elmer Swanson, Elizabeth Kenealey, Joye McKetty, Lynell Walker, Grant Carey, Ric Rasmussen as well as Kathy and Alan Ketchum, Tom Robbins, John Tennyson, Margie Clarke, Gladys Hustler and the Trinity acolytes.

BIBLE STUDY...a good Lenten practice. Why not start this Sunday? We are focusing on a passage from the Gospel of John. Today's Gospel passage shoves us towards Easter. "...whoever believes in him may have eternal life!" What does this mean for you? The famous "John 3:16" (seen at so many sporting events) is part of this passage. How might we Episcopalian Christians read this verse?   Come to the meeting! It's in the Conference Room. These meetings are also for those who seek baptism, confirmation or formal reception into the Episcopal Church. Just stop by or contact Jerry Paré (446-2513; jpare@trinitycathedral.org) for more information.

Another NorCal AIDS Cycle Participant

Gayle Monroe

In May of this year, following in the footsteps of Canon David Link, I will be participating in the NorCal AIDS Cycle, a 330 mile, four day cycling event which raises money for HIV/AIDS treatment, education and services in the Sacramento area.

One of the recipients of the funds raised during this event is the River City Food Bank. I'm very happy to announce that they have asked me to represent them as their official rider. I glady accepted and I've been very happy to recieve such a huge amount of support from everyone involved in this event, from the organizers to other riders, including David.

In preparing for the event I was surprised and saddened when I learned of today's statistics: nationally, 25% of new HIV cases occure in people between the ages of 13 and 29. Having previously been Sr. High Youth Director at Trinity for nearly 5 years, I have always been very connected with the teenagers and young adults here and they hold a special place in my heart. Many of the funds raised in this event help to educated young adults on how they can protect themselves from contracting HIV/AIDS. This is so important if we ever want to see an end to this disease.

My goal is to raise a minimum of $1500 but I'm sure with the generousity that is previlent at Trinity Cathedral, I'll be able to surpass this goal. Join me in my efforts to help River City Food Bank and many other services here in Sacramento by donating what you can to my donation page. No amount is too small or too large.  Click here to go to my donation page.

Thanks for all your support!
