"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
Greetings!
Two weeks ago, at our Annual Meeting, we elected six new vestry members: Sally Smith, David Rickert, Tom Robbins, Kelly Boutwell, Chris Sanft, and Loren Weatherly. I am grateful for everybody who put their name forward for consideration. The vestry has important responsibilities, one of which is to ensure we have the capacity to carry out our ministry. The vestry is responsible for making sure we have the necessary funds, fiscal management, policies as well as an attractive and functional facility. The vestry also helps me in shaping the vision and future of the Cathedral. An important part of their leadership is their prayer life. Each vestry member has a section of the congregation to hold in prayer every week. While there is a lot of work involved, it is also a great deal of fun and can be very fulfilling. The vestry spent last weekend at our annual vestry retreat at the Mercy Center in Auburn building community and planning for the coming year. The vestry selected David Rickert to be the Junior Warden and Adriana Echandia to be the chaplain. At the Annual Meeting, I appointed Kirk Bone to be the Senior Warden. Please hold these congregational leaders in your prayers.

Episcopal Youth Fellowship News
St. John's Shelter Dinners
We thank all who volunteered to cook and serve dinner at St. John's Shelter last Saturday. So many volunteers showed up that some had to be turned away. Please let Rev. Anne know if you can serve March 24 or April 28 and we'll give preference to those who didn't get to serve in February. What a wonderful "problem" to have--too many volunteers for the kitchen space available! Thanks to our Trinity adult leaders, Liz Weir and Jeff Greene, for always being there every fourth Saturday evening to guide us in this important ministry.
Coming March 11th: FREE EYF PIZZA and MOVIE NIGHT from 5-8 p.m.
Students in grades 6-12th are invited to join us in Classroom C (enter through the door facing the alley) on Sunday, March 11th, from 5 to 8 p.m., for FREE pizza, popcorn, fruit and veggies while we watch a film. Let Rev. Anne know if you can come so we'll have enough food for everyone. You are welcome to bring a snack to share, too, but it's not necessary. Just bring yourself! We will need two adults to hand out with us that evening.
Junior High Sunday School Class Room Change in Lent
The Junior HIgh Sunday School class will meet upstairs in the Conference Room during Lent from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m. We need to clean up the room and clear out by 10:55 to make room for the Journey With Jesus meeting in that room that begins at 11 a.m. Thanks to all our Jr. High teachers and aides: Shawn Adams, Celia Hall, Rebecca Petrella, Rachel Henne, John Tennyson and Jean Gifford for your support, faith and flexibility.
Thanks from Rev. Anne
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support after my father (95) fell and broke his femur and hip last Friday. Please continue to pray for Harold Dryden as he recovers in a skilled nursing facility in Woodland, and for my mother, June, (88), as she copes with missing him. This very dear couple will celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary next month, God willing. I regret that I had to cancel our EYF Ski Trip to care for my mother, and I thank everyone for your kind understanding. |

Journey with Jesus
This Sunday at 9:00 - 10:15am or 11:15am - 12:30pm
in the Conference Room
BIBLE STUDY...a good Lenten practice. Why not start this Sunday? We are focusing on the Gospel of Mark. This Sunday we will focus on the story that comes right after Jesus asks his disciples, "Who do you say that I am." Peter gives a good answer but, as is clear in our passage, he doesn't "get it." Do we? Mark's Gospel gives us a good example of how to journey through Lent. Come and see how it may give you some insights for your Lenten journey We have been invited to journey with Jesus and his disciples, to listen, to see, to learn. Come along! Journey with Jesus is also for those who seek baptism, confirmation or formal reception into the Episcopal Church.
You have two different opportunities to discuss this passage: 9 AM and 11:15 AM. Both meet in the Conference Room. Both will focus on the same passage. For more information stop by the Conference Room or contact Jerry Paré (446-2513; jpare@trinitycathedral.org).

California Council of Churches
Speaker at Trinity Cathedral
Monday, March 5 at 7:00pm
Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) founder, Mikey Weinstein and his family have been the most courageous of people taking this on.
Our military academies, bases both here and abroad, our highest ranking officials have been held captive in too many instances to a very narrow view of Christianity. Cadets and soldiers have been ordered to attend extremist presentations, and troops have been commandeered to raise money for activities that lie outside their own faith values. Overseas, MRFF has intervened to remove Bible verses from weapon gun sights the presence of which led to grave concerns that the US would be seen as waging Holy War on Muslim nations and people.
For their commitment to religious freedom for all people, the Weinstein family has lived under siege - they had a swastika carved next to their front door, guns fired into the back of the house, and Mikey and his family receive constant death threats. Yet they continue to speak for all of us, our loved ones in the military, and for prohibiting official favoritism of one narrow view of faith over all others.
