"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"

Greetings!
Lent is now less than three weeks away. Lent is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I appreciate the invitation to do something different for 40 days. I'm usually not good at new-year's resolutions. But 40 days? I can do that! The practice of doing something special in Lent comes from the story of Jesus spending 40 days in the wilderness after he was baptized. For me, Lent is an invitation to enter a wilderness of sorts, where I let go of some of my normal conveniences or habits, and take on a special practice of prayer, service or meditation. For the next couple of weeks, our Adult Spiritual Formation Team, guided by The Rev. Anne McKeever, will help us consider possible Lenten practices. For the next two Sundays, there will be a Lenten Faire in the Great Hall after the Sunday services. In addition to a booklet outlining possibilities, there will be tables with information on different options and programs. At our worship services on February 19, the Sunday before Lent begins, there will be an opportunity for people to make, as an offering, a confidential statement of their intention for Lent, and have those intentions blessed. I invite you to begin praying about how Lent 2012 can be a time of transformation for you.

Candlemas Light Bearer |
Choral Evensong and Candlemas Procession
TONIGHT, Thursday, February 2 at 6:00pm
Celebrated since the fourth century, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord, commemorates the journey of Jesus family to the temple, forty days after his birth, according to Jewish custom. St Luke recounts their encounter with the elderly Simeon, who tells Mary and Joseph that their son is the "light to lighten the gentiles, and glory of his people Israel." For hundreds of years, a candle-lit procession symbolizing that "light" became a part of the celebration, and the feast has come to be known in many places as "Candlemas."
Tonight the Trinity Cathedral Choir will sing our monthly service of Choral Evensong, preceded by a Candlemas procession from the Cathedral courtyard. The service will include music by John Stainer and Peter Aston, and will conclude with the stunning anthem "The Lamb" by English composer John Tavener.
Please join us for this beautiful and unique service! |

Rebuild the Soul of a Nation
 | |
Help Create a Spiritual Home for Thousands of Episcopalians
Thanks to the members of Trinity who have already contirbuted to help rebuild Holy Trinity Cathedral. In Haiti, many of the services people associate with the government-education, medical care-are provided by the Episcopal Church. Imagine the difficulty of leading nearly 100,000 faithful during a crisis without functioning headquarters. Your support is helping to change that.
When you write your check for Trinity Cathedral Haiti, you join congregations around our diocese and nation who are helping rebuild the center of spiritual and practical support in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
So please do it today. If you can afford $20, make that the amount. If you can afford more, please contribute $40 or more.
For more information, contact me at dvandyke876@sbcglobal.net or 296-8346. Find answers to your questions at http://www.trinitycathedral.org/pdfs/Haiti/FAQs.pdf
