"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Greetings!
Brian

This Sunday I will be starting a new, four week series of Practical Christianity classes.  In general I have been looking at the practical benefits of Christian discipleship and the practices that help us realize these benefits.  One of the primary practices in Christianity is our Sunday Worship.  For this next series, I would like to turn our attention to our Sunday worship service.  I will be explaining how our worship is structured to lead to spiritual transformation.  We will be looking at certain elements of the service that we recite week after week, such as the Nicene Creed, so that our recitation can have a deeper meaning.  The class will begin at 10:15 in the Cathedral.

Be a Part of Something Big

Haiti

Have you been meaning to join the growing number of Episcopalians across the country who are helping rebuild Trinity Cathedral in Haiti? Don't worry. There's still time.

Our diocesan goal is $100,000.  If each of us contributes $20, that goal will be reached!.  If you can fit this amount into your expenses this week, please write a check and drop it in the offering plate on Sunday.  If you can afford more, please donate for someone who may not be able at this time.

Thanks to those of you who have already contributed. When you contribute for Trinity Cathedral, Haiti, you join other congregations in our diocese who are helping rebuild the center of spiritual and practical support for nearly 100,000 Episcopalians in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Rebuild the Church in Haiti is a national, grass-roots effort of the Episcopal Church to lift up one of our own dioceses after a year of crushing natural disasters. For more information contact me at dvandyke876@sbcglobal.net or check out http://www.trinitycathedral.org/pdfs/Haiti/FAQs.pdf.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

With thanks,

HandsJesus said [to Simon & Andrew], "Follow me and I will make you fish for people!"  (Mark 1: 17)

How goes your fishing?  We do our best to follow Christ.  Hopefully we continue to learn how to invite people to follow the Way.  This morning in the Journey with Jesus Bible Study we will reflect on today's Gospel passage and what it means for each of those present.  It is a short passage but packed full of meaning as Jesus invites his disciples (that would be us) to journey with him.  Please join either study group: the one at 9 AM or the one at 11:15 AM.  Both are in the Conference Room.  These meetings are also for those who seek baptism, confirmation or formal reception into the Episcopal Church.  Come!  Leave your nets and follow Him!  For more information on Journey with Jesus contact Jerry Paré (446-2513; jpare@trinitycathedral.org) for more information.

Candlemas
Candlemas Light Bearer

Choral Evensong and Candlemas Procession

Thursday, February 2, 6:00pm

Celebrated since the fourth century, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord, commemorates the journey of Jesus family to the temple, forty days after his birth, according to Jewish custom.  St Luke recounts their encounter with the elderly Simeon, who tells Mary and Joseph that their son is the "light to lighten the gentiles, and glory of his people Israel."  For hundreds of years, a candle-lit procession symbolizing that "light" became a part of the celebration, and the feast has come to be known in many places as "Candlemas."

On Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00 pm, the Trinity Cathedral Choir will sing our monthly service of Choral Evensong, preceded by a Candlemas procession from the Cathedral courtyard.  The service will include music by John Stainer and Peter Aston, and will conclude with the stunning anthem "The Lamb" by English composer John Tavener.

Please join us for this beautiful and unique service!

Save those Rubber Bands!

Our Sacramento Bee carrier asked us in December to save and give back the rubber bands encircling our paper every day. I was delighted because I save stuff and have a drawer full of old rubber bands. Who on earth would want them, I thought, but saved them anyway. Now I have an answer. The paper carriers have to pay $55.00 a box for rubber bands out of their own small wages. How easy is it to put a bunch in an envelope and leave them out on the doorstep for your carrier? Perhaps contact him/her first so s/he knows to look for them once a month (or whenever you decide to do it).

Change of meeting time.

Please note that TREE now meets on 3rd Wednesday of each month. Room will be posted on bulletin board in breezeway or look for a notice on the door.
