"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
|
| Greetings!
On January 6 we had a lovely pageant marking the feast of the Epiphany. It was a short and beautiful service where we got to focus on the story of Jesus' birth one last time. We also got to sing beloved Christmas Carols one last time. The feast of the Epiphany marks the beginning of a season in which we focus on Christ's love becoming manifest in our lives. The invitation is for us to pay attention to God's light shining in the ordinary and extraordinary moments.
The feast of the Epiphany also marks a transition in our focus as a congregation. We move from the fullness of Christmas celebrations to the practical business of our Annual Meeting with the election of Vestry members and delegates to our diocesan convention. For me, the Annual Meeting is our opportunity to reflect on how we are doing, and where we are going, as a congregation. The meeting is preceded by a great dinner. People sit at tables hosted by various leaders of the congregation. Each table has its own theme set by the host. Some tables are simple, others are elaborate. It is quite fun. Our Annual Meeting will be February 19, with the dinner at 5:30 and the meeting at 7:00pm. Please watch for more information.
If you are interested in serving on the Vestry or as a convention delegate, please let me know.

Only We Can Build the Church
Why Rebuild Holy Trinity Cathedral in Haiti?
In times of trouble, people turn to the church. Within days of the earthquake in Haiti, people flocked to parishes and Episcopal schools for food, water, and a safe place to stay. Bishop Duracin and his priests passed out tents and clothing to a crowd that grew to 3,000 before temporary housing could be found.
In Haiti, many of the services people associate with the government-education, medical care-are provided by the Episcopal Church. Imagine the difficulty of leading nearly 100,000 faithful during a crisis without functioning headquarters.
There is governmental and NGO aid available to help rebuild housing, clinics, and schools, but only we can rebuild the Episcopal Church. In a country with a per capita income of $480, the Haitian people are giving sweat equity to this project, in some cases literally clearing the rubble by hand.

Be a leader and put your check for $20 (or $40) in the plate this Sunday.
With thanks,

Candlemas Light Bearer |
Choral Evensong and Candlemas Procession
Thursday, February 2, 6:00pm
Celebrated since the fourth century, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord, commemorates the journey of Jesus family to the temple, forty days after his birth, according to Jewish custom. St Luke recounts their encounter with the elderly Simeon, who tells Mary and Joseph that their son is the "light to lighten the gentiles, and glory of his people Israel." For hundreds of years, a candle-lit procession symbolizing that "light" became a part of the celebration, and the feast has come to be known in many places as "Candlemas."
On Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00 pm, the Trinity Cathedral Choir will sing our monthly service of Choral Evensong, preceded by a Candlemas procession from the Cathedral courtyard. The service will include music by John Stainer and Peter Aston, and will conclude with the stunning anthem "The Lamb" by English composer John Tavener.
Please join us for this beautiful and unique service! |

Trinity Cathedral Choristers
Sing at St. Paul's I want to send extend my gratitude to Kami Davis, Director, Trinity Cathedral Choristers and all attending parents for enriching our worship at St. Paul's this past Sunday [January 8]. Their angelic voices filled the air and their presence provided a wonderful sense of joy and praise to the gathered congregation. We know it is a production to take fifteen children on the road but it was greatly appreciated. We look forward to a return visit!
With gratitude,

Our Advent ingathering on Sunday mornings brought in 60 sets of sweat shirts, sweat pants, and sets of long-underwear for WEAVE (Women Escaping a Violent Environment).
