Third track- The Theological Peace Process

THE RABBI, ISRAEL'S PRESIDENT AND THE PALESTINIAN PRIME MINISTER

Rabbi Marc Schneier, President of the NY-based Foundation for Ethnic Understanding (www.ffeu.org) and co-author with Imam Shamsi Ali of "Sons of Abraham" with a foreword by President Bill Clinton, met November 12, with Israel President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem followed by a meeting the next morning with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah in Ramallah. "Both leaders enthusiastically embraced the Foundation's initiative to open a full-fledged 'third track' to the current peace process, " Rabbi Schneier said, "To create true peace, we must encourage Jews and Muslims to get to know and appreciate each other on a theological level in addition to the existing political and economic tracks." President Peres is considering FFEU's offer to lead a Jewish and Muslim dialogue forum in the US on an upcoming visit there, while Prime Minister Hamdallah welcomed the idea of a joint discussion by Rabbis and Imams on matters of shared values to take place soon, possibly in Nablus.
