Hot Off the Grill

Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Newsletter

Fire up those charcoals and get grilling!  A summer barbecue is one of life's simple pleasures. In addition to showcasing fresh, seasonal food, it allows us to enjoy the great outdoors while mingling with our friends and family.

Eating outside seems to warm the soul, while food somehow tastes more mouthwatering when the birds are chirping away in the background and the sun is caressing your skin.

A good old-fashioned barbecue is a great way to honor Dad (your husband) this Father's Day. What dad wouldn't enjoy a backyard barbecue, especially when he is the guest of honor? With a little thought and planning, this year's barbecue bash could be the start of an annual Father's Day tradition! What could be better?

Don't Blow Your Budget on Meat!

You don't need to break the bank to do steak, chicken, or fish on the grill in style. Skip the porterhouse in favor of a great, inexpensive skirt or flank steak, forgoing boneless chicken breasts for cheaper, flavorful legs and thighs, and tossing back the priciest catch of the day in order to net yourself a great flavorful fish.

Grill up a friendly seafood like mackerel or blue fish and pour on the Gayle's Sweet'N'Sassy to spice up you meal.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful men that are in our lives. You are loved, admired, and appreciated.

International Picnic Day - June 18th!

Dust off the baskets, fold up the blankets, and grab a bottle of wine to go: June 18th is International Picnic Day! Picnic, as defined by the Oxford Dictionary, is an outing or occasion that involves taking a packed meal to eat outdoors. It is believed that originally a picnic was similar to a potluck, where each person present would bring a specific dish. The exact moment when picnic went from meaning everyone bring food, to everyone eat outdoors is unknown. Picnics date back to Medieval hunting feasts and informal outdoor banquets of the social and wealthy. A picnic is not so much about the food that is consumed but the spirit and celebration of dining outdoors that makes it special.
Summer Solstice

The first day of Summer is June 21st!

Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.

As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The Northern Hemisphere celebrates in June, but the people on the Southern half of the earth have their longest summer day in December.

Either way, it's the perfect time to get grillin with Gayle's BBQ Sauces!
