This Sunday is Mother's Day. It will be strange for Carole and I as last Mother's Day was the first without her mom and we lost my mom in November. Their memories live on with us and we can see little things in everyday life that reminds us of them. I often find myself saying, "I have to ask mom about..." before I remember. I know they will both be with us this Sunday.

One thing I always remember Mom saying was that you don't have to buy a big present or go to an expensive restaurant for Mother's Day. All she really wanted was for us to spend some time together with her and the family. That is the advice I would like to pass along to all of you. Get up early; come to the bakery to get a croissant or other breakfast pastry. When mom wakes up you can welcome her to the kitchen with her favorite beverage and a bakery treat. What a nice start to the day. She doesn't have to wait for a trek to some restaurant. She can be comfortable in her own house surrounded by the ones she loves.

Happy Mother's Day

Steamed Asparagus

Spring is the best time for Asparagus with local asparagus in the market.  This recipe is simple, quick, and delicious.

1 lb. Asparagus
1 Tbs olive oil
1 Tbs grated Parmesan
1/4 diced red onion
salt and pepper

Trim the ends of the asparagus.  I use a steaming insert for my 8" pot so be sure they fit.  Dice and add 1/4 red onion.  Cover and steam for 5 minutes.

Transfer to a baking sheet.  Drizzle with olive oil and add salt and pepper and cheese.  Place under broiler for few minutes until cheese melts.

Enjoy!
