blondies

The cousin of the traditional brownie.  Based on brown sugar instead of chocolate.  Reinwald's Blondies are made with walnuts and white chocolate chips.   Delicious treat great for kids and adults alike.

Next week is the Super Bowl. I hope your favorite team is playing. Mine is not. My son Gregory lives in Seattle. His fiancé, a Seattle Native, roots for the Seahawks. Greg, true to his New York roots, is a Giants fan. I guess he is staying pretty quiet about now.

Whoever you are rooting for the bakery is making a number of desserts that will make the game more enjoyable. Our football shaped cake is a light pound cake with a thin layer of chocolate butter cream cased in fudge. My favorite is the helmet cake made from our sponge cake and iced in team colors.

I was in the supermarket the other day and it was empty. Yesterday I went to the deli for a sandwich and noticed the same thing. The bakery is also very slow. I don't understand. Have people stopped eating? Where are all the customers who in December complained that we are always too busy? It is frustrating for me to go from our busiest time of the year to our slowest in just a matter of days. So please help me out; support your local bakery. We promise that you won't be disappointed and it may even help reduce your cabin fever and winter blues. Check out the side panel for our monthly specials and keep an eye on our Facebook page for weekly soup recipes to put in the soup bowls.

Happy New Year and Enjoy your days,

From the Reinwald Home Kitchen

With Bread Bowls as one of out items of the month I decided to share with everyone a few of my soup recipes.  The first one is below, but check out our Facebook page for a new recipe each week.

Mushroom Soup

With temperatures dropping I thought a nice bowl of soup could warm you up.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
1 cup portobello mushrooms chopped
1 cup shiitaki mushrooms chopped
2 shallots chopped
1 can chicken broth
1 cup half and half
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
salt and pepper

Saute the mushrooms and shallots in the butter for about 5 minutes or until soft.  Mix in the flour until smooth then gradually stir in the chicken broth.  Cook for about 5 minutes on med-high heat until think.  Stir in the half and half and season with salt and pepper to taste.
