Somewhere in my memory I remember a man's pick-up line as  "We can make beautiful music together".

A little while back, Carole and I went to Manhattan and saw the play "Beautiful".  It was about Carole King's early years in the music world and her tumultuous marriage to Gerry Goffin .  As chronicled in the play, the pair certainly made beautiful music together but were unable to make their marriage work.  We really enjoyed the play and Jessie Mueller as Carole King did a wonderful job.  The music stirred a lot of memories.

The one song that keeps going around and around in my head and was a # 1 hit for the Shirelles is " Will you still love me tomorrow".  The song was very moving as sung in the play  performed by the parts of Gerry and Carole but also the mock Shirelles.   The lyric... "is this a lasting treasure or just a moment's pleasure.... so tell me now and I won't ask again, will you still love me tomorrow?"

This is so appropriate for Valentine's Day.  When a couple first meets, there is a certain level of intoxication,  "a moment's pleasure".  Over time you move past that and build a strong relationship, the  "lasting treasure".  Treasure is a good word because it describes the value of a strong love.  Also, as Blackbeard  the pirate said, " you have to work hard to protect treasure, a treasure worth keeping".

The song  ends with " so tell me now and I won't ask again, will you still love me tomorrow?"  In this case, answer me today and I won't ask anymore but in reality what makes love truly satisfying and fulfilling is you shouldn't have to ask; you know. Even though your mate knows it, re-assure them often.  It is part of the treasure -protecting part.  Very often my wife says " I love you" and I say "I know", but it sure does feel good every time.

Valentine's Day is the perfect day to re-commit to your treasure.  I get upset when I see the ads with men scrambling for a gift that every woman wants.   I just heard an ad on the radio saying  " Fellas, score points,  buy.......   I didn't  know we were keeping score.  The inference is they will be in trouble if they don't get the right gift.

NEWSFLASH!!!!   You are the greatest gift you can give to your spouse.

The bakery is making some special desserts just for Valentine's Day to help celebrate with your special someone.

Please intend on sharing with the one you love.  My favorite is the passion fruit mousse, perhaps with a glass of Chardonnay.

                               Please  enjoy your day!
