Special Halloween Offer

I've read in the W.S.J. that Halloween is very close to Christmas in terms of decorating and celebration. This year Halloween is on a Thursday. I wonder how many people will be wearing a costume to their work place? Every year when children stop by the bakery in costume we give them a Jack-O-Lantern cookie. This year we will also be giving any adult that comes in costume a 25% off a dozen donut selection box. The entire office will be glad to see you. Hope to see you all on the 31st.  Happy Halloween!

My grandmother used a lot of proverbs. Don't take life for granted was one I often heard. The other day, I was at a meeting at the Sailors and Soldiers Museum on Main Street. You know the building in front of the cemetery with the big cannon. Leaving, I had to cross Main St. to my parked car. There was a panel truck parked several spaces west. As I went to cross I looked both ways noticing that the light on NY Ave. was red and saw no cars in either direction. Hopping off the curb to jog across the street, I was in the path of a car I did not see. I tried to twist back and the alert driver with quick reactions swerved left and just missed me. Both the driver and I were shaking and her heart was pounding. I thanked her and apologized for shaking her up. So besides eye glasses flying off my face and a twisted ankle, everything was fine. The outcome easily could have been very different. I end each newsletter with "Enjoy your days," today that has taken on a deeper meaning.

Hurricane Irene 1

Hurricane Irene 2

One year ago Huntington was suffering the effects of Hurricane Sandy. While Huntington emerged relatively unscathed in comparison to many of our South Shore communities; Halloween didn't happen. Kids had to deal with the disappointment of no trick or treating and many homes and businesses, including the bakery, were without power. As we celebrate Halloween this year, it might be good to talk to your children about last year. At times life is going to throw you a curve and how you deal with it will ultimately define you.

Don't take life for granted and please enjoy your days,

Rich Reinwald
