Greetings!
March was a busy month. By contrast, April is blank. It is a good time to catch up on some things that I had to put off in the hustle and bustle of March. The garden beckons, the cars need post-winter polish and I need to hit a few buckets before I venture out to the golf course. There is a stack of books next to my chair that I have yet to tackle. Very often, by the time I sit down, I'm too tired. Usually, I'll turn on the TV to pass a little time. There are a few favorite shows that I try to catch, one being NCIS. You know April is here though; the reruns have started. Do you remember when we used to call them the Summer reruns? The D.V.R. has eliminated most missed viewing; so when reruns are on it usually leads to channel searching. Last week, I stopped on an old Seinfeld episode. What a great show that was. I replayed some different episode highlights in my head and realized how many "bakery moments" are in that show. Who can forget the marble rye escapade? Reinwald's Bakery is going to feature some "Seinfeld Bakery Moments" in this month's Sweet treats. Of course, we will have the marble rye, or as we call it a rye-nickel. Hopefully you won't have to battle any old ladies to get one. Next is a Chocolate Babka. The best part for me is the streussel crumbs on top with a chocolate drizzle. A classic episode ,in my mind, is when George pulls an eclair out of the garbage and starts eating. Instead of the traditional eclair, we are going to make a large eclair cream puff filled with our dairy fresh whip cream. This will be a good opportunity to taste our whip cream. It's simple really; pure heavy cream, a little sugar and a few drops of natural Tahatian Vanilla extract, then air-whipped in a special machine that is in a cool jacket to protect the product. We promise, no garbage cans involved. Which side of the Black and White do you like? Everyone has to decide for themselves. This month you won't have to decide; you can buy two. You will only have to decide who to give the chocolate side to. The cupcake craze had not hit yet when Seinfeld was on. If it had, I am sure our chocolate cupcake with a vanilla bean icing would have been chosen over "muffin tops". While the month of April may be blank; fill in the blanks with a trip down memory lane and some treats from Reinwald's Bakery.
Enjoy your days, Rich Reinwald
