Rector's Reflections:
From "Sheep to Shepherds"

It is fitting at Good Shepherd to use the analogy for Christian growth - "From Sheep to Shepherds."  Certainly there are times when we rely upon the many shepherds in our parish family for education, care, sacraments and prayer.  There are also times when we are called to become shepherds in our own right by taking our place in the flock.  There are opportunities for ministry within the parish and for missions in the world.  How are we doing in God's call to each of us to move from being sheep to shepherds as good stewards?  Taking our place as shepherds is to see in our gifts the vital resources that sustain and grow the parish as the essential source for our lives together and in Christ.  A pledge card bids us to move from being a sheep to a shepherd in our own right.

Blessings,  Larry

Community Events

Only TWO more Sunday shopping days left for you to order Good Shepherd Christmas trees, wreaths, and roping.  We really need your help!  We must order our trees, wreaths, and roping prior to beginning our sale to parishioners.  Thus, we are committed to selling those preordered items or face losing our anticipated profits which support the Outreach projects at Good Shepherd.  Please consider purchasing one or more items from us this Sunday, Nov. 17 or next Sunday, Nov. 24.  Our prices are the same as last year and the quality is exceptional.  We are also providing an opportunity for you to send a mail-order wreath to family, friends and business associates.  Come see our friendly salespeople at our table in the narthex this Sunday.  Thank you for supporting Outreach at Good Shepherd.

Thanksgiving Basket Sign-ups Off to a Good Start!

What an enthusiastic response to our first Sunday to sign-up for Thanksgiving Baskets.  Donations so far total over 45 completed baskets plus cash donations and many volunteers to help assemble the baskets and deliver them.

But we need many more.  The need in our community is great and without our support, Thanksgiving dinner will not be a reality for many less fortunate families.

Please look for the sign-up table and add you name to the list if you have not already done so.  You can pick up a hopping list on Sunday or Click here.

Remember - Turkey drop-off day is Monday, Nov 25th between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

"Adopt an El Hogar Child" for Thanksgiving!

Last Sunday, we announced the "giving thanks" opportunity to choose a picture of an El Hogar child and " adopt" that child into your home for Thanksgiving with prayers and a donation that will help feed the children at El Hogar, Honduras.  The immediate response was overwhelming;  90 of the 101 children are now adopted!  Please consider adopting one of remaining children this Sunday.

Please use the "adopt a child" envelope that comes with the child's picture and return your donation to church by Thanksgiving weekend.  Make checks payable to Good Shepherd with "adopt a child" in the memo line.  Contacts:  Sharon and Richard Holcombe, 703-830-7974
