Make your hotel reservations for the convention directly with the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. Use your Hyatt hotel confirmation at the time of convention registration to take advantage of additional savings on fees and special event tickets. Please be aware of any third party companies contacting to assist with hotel reservations as this is likely a scam - you should deal directly with the Hyatt for any hotel reservation issues.

The National Park System Advisory Board will formally adopt the report on revising Director's Order #21 from its Philanthropy and Partnerships Committee this Friday. APPL Executive Director, Dan Puskar, will attend the meeting in Washington D.C. to help represent the Committee and be available to respond to questions or concern from the advisory board.

Join us in welcoming Partners of Cherokee National Forest as a new APPL member! Formed in 2002, the Partners group provides support for mutliple-use forest management projects and activities in the Cherokee National Forest, which spans 640,000 acres in eastern Tennessee.

Mount Rushmore Society recently won a bid to operate an airport gift store in the Rapid City Regional Airport starting on January 2015. They are planning on providing educational and unique items for the consumer, including original publications, regional gourmet food and gifts, as well as convenience items that every traveler needs.

Jefferson National Parks Association took third place in the 2014 National Association for Interpretation awards for their video series, The Hidden Stories of Lesser Known. Congratulations JNPA!

Big Bend Natural History Association sponsored a six-day-long, 72 mile journey through the extraordinarily remote Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River along the international border with Mexico to honor a group of veterans. The program, ActiVets, is designed to help veterans make the difficult transition from a war zone to everyday life stateside.

Portland Parks Foundation is bringing a clever twist to Giving Tuesday this year. The focus is more on giving than receiving in this #GivingTuesday campaign by giving $1,000 to one location in their parks system. Way to go PPF!

The Bureau of Land Management has extended the comment period for the proposed rule that would promote the use of "designated leasing areas" that include the BLM's Solar Energy Zones. They will also be hosting a webinar for interested parties on Wednesday December 3, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. EST.

The U.S. Forest Service recently announced that it exceeded its forest service restoration goals for FY 2014, highlighting the agency's continued commitment to improving the health of America's National Forests, reducing the threat of catastrophic wildfire, and protecting watersheds. 

The U.S. Fish and WIldlife Service has been approved to receive $28 million in funding from The Migratory Bird Conservation Commision. The funding is to conserve more than 128,000 acres of wetland habitats for ducks, bitterns, sandpipers and other birds in the United States. 

The National Park Service along with the National Park Foundation is hosting a centennial webinar today from 3:00 P.M - 4:00 P.M EST. APPL will also be holding a session at the 2015 APPL Convention on activating the NPS licensing program so you can get the latest information and tools to engage with the program and ask your questions about activation beginning in spring 2015.

Opportunities and Resources

The deadline to apply for an Every Day Event Grant is December 18, 2014. These grants provide funding to public land organizations, or Friends Groups, to engage their community on a public land site. They help fund events that are educational, recreational, and/or volunteer-based.

Donations expected to be higher for the 5th straight year in 2014. Set your giving trees alight this season as you begin end-of-year donor campaigns for public lands. Read more in this report from Charity Navigator.

Gifts of at least $1-Million or more rose sharply to $26.6 Billion in 2013, up more than a third from the previous year, according to a newly released study.

On social media, personal ties are central to Charitable Giving. A majority of adults would take some sort of action-such as 'liking', reposting, or commenting-after seeing a friend's social media post about a charitable donation, according to a new study from the American Red Cross. But actually make a donation themselves? Not so fast.
