Your Business Advocacy Council has done their homework and provides you the following for your information. The November election will be here before we know it. We encourage you to read up and get informed. We look at our issues from a business stand point. This should matter to you!

VOTE YES!

Ballot Measure 34-221: Proposed Countywide Vehicle Registration Fee for Road Maintenance -

We can't afford to fall behind

The condition of our roads is deteriorating and our list of deferred maintenance needs is currently more than $10.5 million and growing. Over the past 10 years, the average pavement condition rating of the county road system has dropped more than 10 points (on a scale of 0-100). It is projected to decline another 10 points over the next decade with current funding sources.

Cost-effective preventive maintenance avoids costly future repairs. Fixing roads after they've deteriorated can cost 5 to 10 times as much as preventive maintenance. Treating roads at the right time saves taxpayers money over the long term-potentially tens of millions of dollars over the next 20 to 30 years. Read more here

Ballot Measure 34-226: Beaverton - Authorizes bonds to rebuild city hall as public safety center

Beaverton has never had a dedicated police building. The city's public safety operations are housed in several locations, instead of one coordinated center. A volunteer citizen advisory group has urged Beaverton to update and consolidate to meet safety and security concerns. Read more here

Statewide Ballot Measures -

Measure 90 - Creates an open, top-two primary election System - Vote YES!

Allows for greater choice and voter participation in the primary - Read more  here

Measure 92 - Mandates labeling of certain foodstuffs that contain genetically modified organisms - Vote NO!

After very deliberate discussions, the BAC determined that this would create a costly business regulation not only for the businesses in food manufacturing, but for the state with regards to enforcement and monitoring. We believe the market place is already responding to consumers demand for improved and transparent labeling as you can already find products marked with none GMO or gluten-free etc. on our shelves. Read more here

Read your e-news for more upcoming election information! We do the hard work and discussion so you can focus on running your business.

Finish your week strongly and productively.

Sincerely,

Lorraine'sSig

Fourth Quarter Clutch Time

We are entering the fourth quarter of the year, which usually means it's clutch time for those businesses that operate on a calendar year fiscal year. Clutch time is that time of year when you show your ability to perform under high pressure, overcome all odds, and complete all procrastinated homework that lay before you. It's the most stressful time of year and your chance to prove that you're the star. Failure is not an option. It doesn't matter where or how you complete your work as long as it gets done.

Take a breath, look at what will help you meet your goals, go after them with all you have and finish strong!
