The Chamber and Small Business Development Center  -

Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Chamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz by appointment for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.

As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. To learn more about how the SBDC can help your business or to arrange an appointment contact the chamber at 503-350-2007 or email Michelle

Branding

Definition: There are many definitions of branding. In the Chamber we reference it as "to give a brand name to" and "to promote as a brand name"

Origin: before 950; Middle English, Old English: burning, a burning piece of wood, torch, word; cognate with Dutch brand, German Brand, Old Norse brandr; akin to burn.

Why do you promote your brand? A common answer is to get your company name and image out to the public, which also includes your reputation. If you have a good reputation, others will see your logo and think positive thoughts. If you have a bad reputation, or a customer has a bad experience, they will see your logo and have negative thoughts. The ultimate goal is to get more and more people to have good experiences so they talk about your company and the "word of mouth/internet" exposure helps build your brand.

wikiHow has 8 steps on how to promote your business. Whether you own your company, or you work for a company, you represent the company brand. How many of these steps are you doing?

  1. Create a brand image, or logo

  2. Network

  3. Advertise

  4. Build business partnerships with other organizations

  5. Rely on the power of social networks

  6. Offer freebies (swag)

  7. Develop relationships with your customers

  8. Encourage customers to talk about their experiences using your business
