The Chamber and Small Business Development Center -
Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Chamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz by appointment for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.
As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. To learn more about how the SBDC can help your business or to arrange an appointment contact the chamber at 503-350-2007 or email Michelle.

Representing Business to Government...
Our Business Advocacy Council focuses on issues that directly impact businesses that most owners/managers do not have time to stay on top of but count on the Chamber to do so and be their voice.

Michelle's Membership Corner
I recently saw a comment that Chambers of Commerce are not public service organizations. It is true that we do not directly donate our dollars to causes. One reason is that we do not have the resources to give to all of the wonderful organizations out there. Another reason is the Chamber is a non-profit(501C-6) and we need the dollars we bring in to take care of you. While we do not directly give to non-profit organizations, we do educate and train others on how to be involved and give their time and money to organizations they are passionate about.
Through our Leadership Beaverton program (501C-3 organization) the Beaverton Chamber of commerce educates each class on the workings of Washington County and Beaverton. Included in this education are many non-profits and educational institutions that need the help of the community in order to keep their doors open. Each Leadership Beaverton class participates in a project that directly benefits a local business in need. Some class projects include building Habitat for Humanity homes, implementing a kickball tournament for HomePlate Youth Services (which drew in over $20,000 in 2014), helping raise money for the Beaverton Police Activities League annual fundraiser, raising over $19,000 to build a pet sanctuary for Monika's House, which will allow more domestic violence victims the opportunity to leave their abusive home and take their pet with them. Graduates of Leadership Beaverton often donate their time to the non-profits they learn about through the program and many join the board for these non-profits.
You will find many Chamber staff also committing their personal time to the non-profit(s) of their choice. We also introduce non-profits to businesses who can help them and their clients. While we do not provide monetary donations to other non-profits, we educate our members on the needs of our community and encourage our members to get involved to help strengthen and grow the community as a whole.
While you may not think of the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce as a public service non-profit, know that we work for, and support our entire community and provide services that positively impact all businesses.
Videotaping is back!! This benefit has been widely popular and is offered with your membership for Gold Level members through Mission Level members. Our next set of tapings is June 25th and 26th. Slots are already filling up so schedule your reservation ASAP! Contact Kelly or Michelle to schedule your time. Harvey Thomas was a wonderful photographer who loved capturing memories through photo. Many of us were lucky enough to be photographed by Harvey. His family is offering Harvey's photos and negatives for those who would like to capture their memory. You can pick up the photos and negatives at the Tire Factory at 2305 Portland Road, Newberg, OR 97132 on Sunday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 29th from 11AM to 4PM. If you are unable to make it the family is willing to ship the photos and negatives to you (you will pay for the shipping). Please contact Anthony at 503.849.7975 or [email protected] for more information.
The Business Before Hours trial run has been so successful we are keeping it going! Beginning July 22nd, Business Before Hours will move to the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Watch the calendar for location announcements. Contact Michelle to sign up to be a host or sponsor of this event.
