Greetings!
Over the years and thanks to our fantastic Ambassadors, we have become a victim of our own success with our stellar Coffee Connection. As we've grown to an average participation of over 100 business builders each Friday, we've limited the number of members that can physically host, the number of spotlights our members get a shot at, and we have many smaller member locations that want to draw people into their place of business.
We are exploring the idea of Business BEFORE Hours where up to 40 business builders could meet once or twice a month at a different member business. We have a growing list of hosts and would like to take a pulse check on participants! This would be relationship building and networking but it will be more tight knit and intimate. We have not solidified a day or frequency yet, but Michelle would love to know if this peeks your curiosity and if you would like to check it out.
If you have other ideas, please let us know!
Finish your week strongly and productively.
Sincerely,
Lorraine Clarno, President/CEO, ACE Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce 503.350.2006

The Chamber and Small Business Development Center -
Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Chamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz by appointment for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.
As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. To learn more about how the SBDC can help your business or to arrange an appointment contact the chamber at 503-350-2007 or email Michelle.

On-the-Job Training Reimbursements Available for Local Businesses
WorkSource Centers are currently offering reimbursements to support local businesses for providing On-the-Job Training (OJT) to their newly-hired employees. Through state and federal grants (via WorkSystems, Inc.), WorkSource is able to reimburse companies up to 50% of the wages for their new hires during the training period.
Hundreds of small and medium-sized companies throughout Washington and Multnomah Counties have utilized the OJT Program over the past few years to train and keep skilled, productive workers. This program has proven to be a very cost-effective way to develop talent for businesses that require unique or niche skill sets. It also benefits the economy by helping job seekers who may be otherwise highly-qualified for a job but for the lack of a couple of missing skills. Examples of successful OJT's in Washington County this past year have included a wide range of skilled occupations, such as warehouse workers, bookkeepers, field service technicians, electronics technicians, and software developers.
For more information about the OJT Program or to see if your business is eligible, contact your local WorkSource Center. Businesses located in Washington County, call 503-526-2712 (Alicia) or 503-612-4214 (Bryan). Businesses in Multnomah County, call 503-280-6633 (Rhonda) or 503-669-7112, ext. 250 (Miriam).

Representing Business to Government...
Our Business Advocacy Council focuses on issues that directly impact businesses that most owners/managers do not have time to stay on top of but count on the Chamber to do so and be their voice.
NEXT MEETING: April 3, 2014. 7:30 - 8:30am
Update on the Beaverton Community Health Collaborative - Dave Waffle/Randy Ealy Meet the Chamber's Endorsed Candidates
We meet monthly on the first Thursday at 7:30am - 8:30am in our down stairs conference room. Feel free to contact Lorraine if you have any questions. We'd love to have you.
All Business Advocacy Council Meetings are open to all members (appointed or not!). If you "get" the connection between monitoring regulations, ensuring business has input at the table on issues such as transportation, taxation and more...you should come and participate. All ideas and opinions are welcome.

Business Before Hours
The Chamber is working hard to draw customers into every member's place of business. Are you a business that is not big enough to host Coffee Connection but you still want to draw an audience into your location? We have a solution that will take place 1-2 Wednesday mornings a month. Email Michelle for more information.
You asked and the Chamber is delivering:
ACH Payments (direct withdrawals) are coming soon to your favorite Chamber!! Effective March 1, 2014 you can sign up to have your Chamber Membership and Sponsorship automatically deducted from your bank account each month. That is right, you can add your different sponsorships to your automatic monthly payment. Email me if you would like to take advantage of this great benefit.
We can feel the anticipation for golf season to start. With that means we are gearing up for the annual Beaverton Chamber Golf Scramble at Pumpkin Ridge. Join us Friday, October 3rd as we take on Ghost Creek at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. We have new sponsorship opportunities this year. Let me know if you're interested in having your company connected to this amazing event! Email or call at 503-350-2007.
Interest Groups
Chamber members that play together do business together. Do you have an interest that you would love to invite other Chamber members to (scrapbooking, golfing, hiking, chess, etc.)? Talk to me about spreading the word so other members can join in the fun.
