 member KUDOS!

A big shout out to Tracey Ullom, owner of Purple Sail Creative LLC. Tracey is an excellent Graphic Designer and I wholeheartedly recommend her services. When I needed to re-brand my business recently, I called Tracey. She was easy to work with, met our very tight timeline, listened to our vague feedback and turned it into a brilliant design that suited me to a T. You can see her craftsmanship in our beautiful new logo.
Thank you Tracey. I love the logo, the color scheme, the business card and you. Dave Chin, Business Coach of Oregon - Dave Chin

The Chamber and Small Business Development Center  -

Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. TheChamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz every first Wednesday of the month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and third Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.

Chamber member & Ambassador, Lisa Chang, Hula Halau 'Ohana Holo'oko'a

"I was a pharmacist for 20 years and had no previous business education.  Seven years ago I decided to quit pharmacy and focus on building my Hula and Hawaiian Entertainment business which I had been doing as a hobby 8 years prior.  The first five years were some lean years.  I used to drive to Lloyd Center to meet with a Small Business Development Center Adviser.  Now we are lucky that the Beaverton Chamber has partnered with the SBDC and we have Jon-Michael Kowertz and team to meet with us in Beaverton.  Jon-Michael is passionate about helping the small business owner and is knowledgeable in all areas of business with an expertise in marketing.  Thank you Jon-Michael!  I look forward to a continued partnership."

As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. To learn more about how the SBDC can help your business or to arrange an appointment contact the chamber at 503-350-2007 or email Michelle

Representing Business to Government...

Our Business Advocacy Council focuses on issues that directly impact businesses that most owners/managers do not have time to stay on top of but count on the Chamber to do so and be their voice.

NEXT MEETING: **January 9th, 2013.   7:30 - 8:30am

**Special date due to the new year.

We meet monthly on the first Thursday at 7:30am - 8:30am in our down stairs conference room. Feel free to contact Lorraine if you have any questions. We'd love to have you.

All Business Advocacy Council Meetings are open to all members (appointed or not!).  Question of the week: Pick 3 topics from the list below you are most interested in attending. Email Michelle with your selection.
1. Generations @ Work - Today, many organizations are finding four different generations interacting in the workplace: Traditionals, Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, and Milleniials. Each bring their own unique and sometimes differing perspectives, values and communication styles to the workday experience. In this class we will have a discussion and explore strategies for understanding and effectively managing the different generations.

2. Education Working: A Guide to 21st Century Careers - In a rapidly changing world, it is imperative that we are prepared to be successful in the 21st century workforce & beyond. In this "snapshot" of the growing careers for the 21st Century, we will provide you with ideas of how to capitalize on the knowledge and skills needed to be in front of the trends driving these industries.

3. Professional Trends - Trends are about change and every change has at its core, a "driver." Learn how to predict or identify a new trend and discover how to link your career goals to new trends & industries.

4. Project Management - Project Management continues to play an increasingly important role in project & organization success. Learn more about the Project Management Continuum and it's holistic view of the organization, project evaluation, & tracking. Discover the skill sets needed to be a successful Project Manager.

5. Time Management - Time is one of the most important resources that an employee can possess. It must be managed with the same diligence as money. This workshop will provide several tools and strategies to help recapture your day and get the job done more efficiently! Topics covered will include: Identifying your 3 time bandits, 3 time management methods to help you win back your day, and Simple tools to help overcome stress and procrastination.

6. Conflict Resolution - Conflict is based on interaction and can be driven by perceptions, not just by the objective situation. It begins and is sustained by the behaviors of the parties involved and their reactions to one another. In conflict resolution, communication is the key and it is important to talk to others and gather as much information and advice as possible.

Have a great week!
