 member KUDOS!

A big shout out to Tracey Ullom, owner of Purple Sail Creative LLC. Tracey is an excellent Graphic Designer and I wholeheartedly recommend her services. When I needed to re-brand my business recently, I called Tracey. She was easy to work with, met our very tight timeline, listened to our vague feedback and turned it into a brilliant design that suited me to a T. You can see her craftsmanship in our beautiful new logo.
Thank you Tracey. I love the logo, the color scheme, the business card and you. Dave Chin, Business Coach of Oregon - Dave Chin

Greetings!

Thanks so much to those of you that completed your membership feedback survey. This Friday our board of directors will be examining the feedback in full detail. We are pleased to see that the gaps between your viewed importance and our performance over all are limited, but we have work to do. In particular, the focus will be on defining a clearer and deliberate role or niche in retaining and attracting jobs to Beaverton. I am looking forward to getting the great minds and talents of your board members wrapped around this discussion and coming out with a plan.

Do you have business news that you'd like to share? At Gold level and above, we will post your news in our newsroom and share your story. Our website and newsroom is getting thousands of unique visitors a month..............that's value!

Finish your week strong & productively!

As I write this article the sun is shining on my face and it just doesn't seem like Christmas is just around the corner.  Here at the chamber the Holiday Auction Committee has been meeting all year. Our enthusiastic elves have been very busy creating donation request forms and letters, sending out invites, creating spreadsheets of past donors, planning the layout at Embassy Suites, creating and maintaining the donation/donors Bidding For Good database and now most importantly following up on our donation requests.

Our Online Auction starts Nov 29th and it gets visitors nationwide and regionally.  This is a place where your business can gain a lot of visibility in addition to our membership.   If you've received a donation request (or not) and you intent to donate, now is the time to let us know or bring in your donation.  This will save our elves some phone calling time.   You have the option of donating to the Online Auction or Holiday Live Auction or both.  You will find all the information you right here on our website. You can even make your reservation online at the same time.  If you need to speak to someone in person, please contact me at 503 350 2004 or email me.

We greatly appreciate your support!

The Chamber and Small Business Development Center Partner in 2013

Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. TheChamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz every first Wednesday of the month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and third Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.

Chamber member & Ambassador, Lisa Chang, Hula Halau 'Ohana Holo'oko'a

"I was a pharmacist for 20 years and had no previous business education.  Seven years ago I decided to quit pharmacy and focus on building my Hula and Hawaiian Entertainment business which I had been doing as a hobby 8 years prior.  The first five years were some lean years.  I used to drive to Lloyd Center to meet with a Small Business Development Center Adviser.  Now we are lucky that the Beaverton Chamber has partnered with the SBDC and we have Jon-Michael Kowertz and team to meet with us in Beaverton.  Jon-Michael is passionate about helping the small business owner and is knowledgeable in all areas of business with an expertise in marketing.  Thank you Jon-Michael!  I look forward to a continued partnership."

As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. To learn more about how the SBDC can help your business or to arrange an appointment contact the chamber at 503-350-2007 or email Michelle

Representing Business to Government...

Our Business Advocacy Council focuses on issues that directly impact businesses that most owners/managers do not have time to stay on top of but count on the Chamber to do so and be their voice.

NEXT MEETING: December 5, 2013.  ** 7:30 - 9:00am. Agenda: Alma Flores, City of Beaverton Economic Development Department, will seek input on possible food carts and pop up stores in Beaverton, Westgate property siting and the Beaverton Community Health Cooperative, Legislative 2014 agenda.

We meet monthly on the first Thursday at 7:30am - 8:30am in our down stairs conference room. Feel free to contact Lorraine if you have any questions. We'd love to have you.

All Business Advocacy Council Meetings are open to all members (appointed or not!). If you "get" the connection between monitoring regulations, ensuring business has input at the table on issues such as transportation, taxation and more...you should come and participate. All ideas and opinions are welcome.

YEA! Young Entrepreneurs Academy

 Week No. 23....

This week's YEA! lesson was packed.  Students learned the Business Plan Basics, what should a Business Plan do, what is the difference between an Executive and a Company Summary, etc.

Is this business realistic?

The entrepreneurs then took their ideas and did research on computers using their Research Guide and they started their draft plan.  Next week we look forward to seeing their samples/prototype.

Jon Michael instructing on writing a business plan.

We continue to look for support from businesses to help these Young Entrepreneurs succeed.  Call or email Evelyn at 503 350 2004  if you would like to participate.  We are looking for Graphic Designers, Attorneys, Accountants, Web Developers, Business Mentors, and YEA! Investor Panelists, etc.
