Greetings!
Yesterday morning we had great Board of Directors meeting to kick off our final push for Q4. Since we had taken some time off during the busy summer vacation months, we went around the room and asked folks to share what was new, different, concerning, exciting etc. from a business perspective at this time. The gist of what we heard was refreshing, renewing and welcomed!
Board members shared that business is good and good things are happening for our service districts. Projects are off the ground and for the first time in many years there are far more private development projects than government projects/work happening. We heard that the south Beaverton area (think 6B) infrastructure is underway to ready the area for private development (lots of road work and expansion). Washington Square has a new Property Manager - Welcome Thomas Randall! Tualatin Hills Park & Rec has made progress with a home builder developer on establishing a park in N. Bethany and the value of parks as an asset to the community is strongly recognized. PGE is working with Nike on much need power and utilities for their huge expansion. The Beaverton School District transferred 400 teachers this summer - in a positive move and the year is off to a great start.
Bottom line - things are cooking again. This doesn't mean in anyway that we should rest on our laurels! It means that it is time to dig in and keep doing what we've been doing and more of it to fuel the economic engine of the state - Washington County & Beaverton!
One Week From Tomorrow! The Comcast Business Class Annual Chamber Golf Tournament kicks off at 12:00pm sharp. Business grows on the greens. We have a few spots left to fill - call or email Michelle if you want to be a part of the Westside's BEST and most UNIQUE golf tourney! 503-350-2007

Do you know a middle or high school student, who is interested in starting their own business- but has no idea on how to get the ball rolling? If so we're here to help them get their ideas off the ground and into motion.
The Beaverton Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or Beaverton YEA! is currently accepting nominations and applications for 2013-14 academic year from "all Beaverton area students". Applications are accepted, and student interviews are conducted, on a rolling basis. Beaverton YEA! will grant admission to a maximum of twenty four students annually. Applications for the 2013-14 academic year will be accepted until Oct 18th, or until such time as the class cap is achieved.
For more information, and to download an application, visit http://www.beaverton.org/newsroom/ or call Evelyn Orr at 503 350 2004, email me.
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a year-long program that teaches middle and high school students how to start and run their own, REAL businesses. Students brainstorm business ideas, decide if they want to work by themselves or as a team, write a business plan, pitch their plan to investors for funding, and actually launch their own business or social movement. All of the learning is real and experiential. Students leave the class as business owners, complete with a DBA and bank account!
Beaverton YEA! is held the Beaverton High School Computer Lab every Tuesday from 4-7pm, beginning in November 2013 and ending in June 2014.
