Greetings!
I am kind of missing getting to say "hullabaloo" this week :). What a grand time it was for all of us that were able to make it to the rooftop last Friday evening.
My guess is that those of you that couldn't attend are hearing tidbits of the evening and the surprises that were built within. We had graffiti artists, amazing circus dancer/performers, a flash mob (which included about 20 chamber members and the Hawkettes dance team from South Ridge High School) and the birthday party concluded with a fantastic fireworks show.
In celebration of the Chamber's 60th birthday and the City's 120th, we wanted to look forward and not back. Celebrating how far we've come and give a glimpse into the innovative and creative challenges that we face ahead. If you aren't changing, you are dying. Beaverton is going to be amazing as it continues "growing up". Thank you all for supporting the Hullabaloo! Fall 2013 will mark the 1st year of the academy at Beaverton High School.
We are looking for the areas youngest Entrepreneurs!
Do you know a middle or high school student, age 11-18, who is interested in starting their own business- but has no idea on how to get the ball rolling? If so we're here to help them get their ideas off the ground and into motion.
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or YEA! at the Beaverton High School is currently accepting nominations and applications for 2013-2014 academic year. Applications are accepted, and student interviews are conducted, on a rolling basis. Beaverton YEA! will grant admission to a maximum of twenty four students annually. Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year will be accepted until October 18th, or until such time as the class cap is achieved.
We are looking for business professionals to get involved...
Through their interactions with business professionals during the year, YEA! students gain some of the most important knowledge and experience they need to succeed. Local professionals volunteer their time and expertise as guest speakers, mentors, investors, graphic designers, field trip hosts, business plan reviewers, and much more. The time YEA! students spend with adults who encourage their futures is invaluable, and participants often report getting even more out of their participation than they put in to it!

The Chamber and Small Business Development Center Partner in 2013
Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. TheChamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz every first Wednesday of the month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and third Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.
As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. Leadership Beaverton 2014!
The Class of 2014 is now open and registrations are being accepted. LB is a community awareness and professional development opportunity for anyone that wants to better understand and contribute to the fabric of our great community. Stop for a moment and ask yourself if you understand the how's and why's of the things in your day to day life just seem to "happen". Water comes out of your faucet when you wash your hands, traffic lights work and control flow, why Canyon Rd. and Farmington are such challenging main arterials and why the railroad tracks dissect Beaverton on a highway - and what's being done about it? Why are the names Hall, Carr, Biggi & Fanno so significant in our town? Have you passed by St. Mary's Home for Boys on TV Highway and wondered - "What goes on in there"? 93 languages are spoken in our schools and how can you make that asset work for your business?
