Greetings!

June is here. It has arrived and it is BEAUTIFUL! Rose Festival with sunshine and all.

Ahhhhh Summer.....sunshine, BBQs, fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, outdoor dining and......................

Leadership Beaverton The Class of 2014 is now open and registrations are being accepted. LB is a community awareness and professional development opportunity for anyone that wants to better understand and contribute to the fabric of our great community. Stop for a moment and ask yourself if you understand the how's and why's of the things in your day to day life just seem to "happen". Water comes out of your faucet when you wash your hands, traffic lights work and control flow, why Canyon Rd. and Farmington are such challenging main arterials and why the railroad tracks dissect Beaverton on a highway - and what's being done about it? Why are the names Hall, Carr, Biggi & Fanno so significant in our town? Have you passed by St. Mary's Home for Boys on TV Highway and wondered - "What goes on in there"? 93 languages are spoken in our schools and how can you make that asset work for your business?

This program is fun, informative and one where you build relationships - personal and professional - for a life time.

Full details and the application are available here - please email me with questions.

Finish your week strong & productively!

The Chamber and Small Business Development Center Partner in 2013

Your chamber continues to create strong service partnerships on behalf of the small business community in Beaverton. The chamber is privileged to partner with the Small Business Development Center- Portland Community College (SBDC-PCC), a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. TheChamber hosts SBDC advisor, Jon-Michael Kowertz every first Wednesday of the month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and third Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for free and confidential, one-on-one business advising.

As additional resource for small businesses in Beaverton, owners and entrepreneurs can schedule an appointment for SBDC advising and conveniently meet at the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. Candidates for advising may need help in business start-up, marketing, planning, financing, loan package development and more. Business advising is at no charge and does not require chamber membership. To learn more about how the SBDC can help your business or to arrange an appointment contact the chamber at 503-350-2007 or email Jessica.

Representing Business to Government...

Our Business Advocacy Council focuses on issues that directly impact businesses that most owners/managers do not have time to stay on top of but count on the Chamber to do so and be their voice.

2013 Legislative Priorities & Agenda ....RELEASED

NEXT MEETING: We are taking July off for summer vacation - see you back in August where we will begin looking at potential issues and ballot measures for the November election.

We meet monthly on the first Thursday at 7:30am - 8:30am in our down stairs conference room. Feel free to contact Lorraine if you have any questions. We'd love to have you.

All Business Advocacy Council Meetings are open to all members (appointed or not!). If you "get" the connection between monitoring regulations, ensuring business has input at the table on issues such as transportation, taxation and more...you should come and participate. All ideas and opinions are welcome.

Join the Beaverton Better Buildings Challenge!

Buildings throughout our country waste energy because they are not efficient. This greatly contributes to the amount of fuel we purchase and to America's energy independence. Taking simple steps can reduce energy use, and the money saved can be spent on growing local businesses, investing in new technologies, and creating jobs in our community. The City of Beaverton, in collaboration with PGE, Energy Trust, and NW Natural invite you to join the Better Buildings Challenge and receive a free energy consultation and more.
