Greetings!
"Are we meeting your expectations?", asked Lorraine ................."No.".....awkward pause....."you are EXCEEDING them", replied 6-month member, Jim.
Since last Friday, I have made over 50 phone calls to members; reaching out to individuals who joined in 2012 - asking them directly for input and feedback. While I can't say all of them went as I shared above, I can say that all but 2 indicated we are meeting their expectations. This tells me two things 1. we are on the right track when speaking about and promoting membership benefits to potential members and 2. we can do better!
Chamber membership is about business visibility that can be enhanced with participation but not dependent solely on participation. It is about businesses coming together to advocate for a strong local economy. It is about promoting the Beaverton area as a place that thrives and where members support doing business local with one another. It is about tools, resources and educational programs for small business. It is about connecting the dots and bringing groups together to do great things. It is about positive and forward thinking individuals that give of their time and expertise to help one another.
Specifically I was asking about ideas and input as we plan for 2013. What can we do new and different to add value to your bottom line and membership? I wish it was possible to call and personally speak with each and every member at least once a year if not more. My door is always open and my email inbox has room - I'd love to keep gathering ideas and feedback year-round.
Finish your week strong & productively!
Sincerely, Lorraine Clarno, President/CEO, ACE Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce 503.350.2006

Representing Business to Government...
Our Business Advocacy Council focuses on issues that directly impact businesses that most owners/managers do not have time to stay on top of but count on the Chamber to do so and be their voice.
NEXT MEETING: **Wednesday, December 5, 2012
TOPIC - Final touches on our Legislative Agenda for 2013 session
We meet monthly on the first Thursday at 7:30am - 8:30am in our down stairs conference room. Feel free to contact Lorraine if you have any questions. We'd love to have you. **Special date this month
All Business Advocacy Council Meetings are open to all members (appointed or not!). If you "get" the connection between monitoring regulations, ensuring business has input at the table on issues such as transportation, taxation and more...you should come and participate. All ideas and opinions are welcome.

Promoting Community...
Your Chamber is a Lead & Support Partner

Uberthons announces the Oregon Turkeython to be held on Thanksgiving Morning at Beaverton Town Square. The family running event includes 5k, 10k, 1k, and ½ k races. The races are professionally timed by Uberthons using overhead RFID antennas that read chips attached to racing bibs. Race results are posted on the Internet as the runners and walkers cross the finish line. Famous Footwear is the title sponsor of the event. Other sponsors include Sports Authority, Oregon Health Clubs, The Fitness Studio, Acceleration Sports Medicine, Oroweat, Courtyard Marriott, Dickie Jo's, Mucho Gusto, and Yo My My Frozen Yogurt. The Turkeython comes to Beaverton for this 2nd annual event. All course roads will be closed and well marked. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present - and members of the Portland's Singing Christmas Tree will introduce the holiday season to Beaverton as they perform before the start of the race. A special recognition will be made to our Veterans.
The event benefits non-profit organizations including Westside Police Activities League, Portland Rescue Mission, Portland's Singing Christmas Tree, SHOC Foundation, Camp to Belong NW, Camp Rosenbaum, Tigard Community Back Pack Program, Bradley Angle, and Project Linus.
All Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce members are invited to participate in the event by providing discount coupons, publicizing the event, volunteering as event directors, or participating as a company team in the running events.
While the Oregon Turkeython does not yet rival the Dallas, Texas or Sacramento, CA Thanksgiving runs, which each have over 26,000 participants, the Turkeython will surely grow and be a popular holiday event in downtown Beaverton for years to come.
If you are interested in promoting your business, or in helping with the event, review the webpage athttp://www.uberthons.com/turkeython-sponsors and email uberthons@gmail.com, or call 503-516-6998. The event website is www.turkeython.com, and the event facebook page iswww.facebook.com/oregonturkeython.
