Swing into Spring at MFAC!
 Greetings!
The electric energy of the Spring Production is in the air. Students are busily preparing for their end of year showcase while faculty and staff work busily making certain that everything is ready for the big show! Families, community members and parents
As we gear up toward the Spring Production, I'd like to remind everyone about a few other important topics.
1) Student Evaluations
All MFAC students will receive a progress evaluation in early May. The evaluation will give feedback on the students' technical progress throughout the year and will offer registration suggestions for the summer and the upcoming school year. We are working toward moving all of our everything online (very exciting)! We'll keep you updated on the status.
2) Priority Registration for Current Students
Current MFAC students will receive priority registration for the upcoming school year for classes and private music lessons.
Priority Registration dates are June 2 & 3. The preliminary Fall Schedule will be distributed with the Student Evaluations in early May.
3) Continuing your training over the Summer
MFAC is home to guest teachers from around the globe over the summer. We host teachers from Australia, London, Los Angeles, South Carolina, New York and more. Our guest faculty is cutting edge and are leaders in their specialty fields. They are always eager to share their gifts with the students of MFAC year after year. We highly encourage our students to continue their training over the summer months. Young students training in dance, theater and music can make significant progress over the summer and generally see tremendous strides toward their goals. Please be sure to talk to your child's teacher to determine the best summer program for your child. Plus...summer at MFAC is tons of fun! Click here to see the Summer Schedule.
4) MFAC Parent Survey
We value your opinion and appreciate your feedback and would like to hear what suggestions you have that might make MFAC a better place for our community. We will be sending out a survey to our current MFAC families when we return from Spring Break. Please take a moment to submit your suggestions and comments.
5) MFAC Blog Our very own Sara Glick has volunteered to head up the new MFAC Blog! We're excited to have a format to share resources, news and important facts with you! We'll keep you posted on the launch.

Congratulations to the Royal Academy of Dance Exam Students
The ballet students at MFAC completed their 2012 RAD Exams this past week!
Over the course of 5 days, over 100 students participated in the assessments in the Graded and Vocational Syllabi.
Our teachers love learning too!
ABT Teacher Training Program Jacqueline Doherty, Artistic Director of Metropolitan Youth Ballet, recently traveled to Orlando, Florida where she participated in the American Ballet Theater's Teacher training program. We will begin to integrate the ABT's program into our regular school curriculum next year.
RAD New Syllabus The RAD launched a new ballet syllabus for ballet Grades 1-3. All MFAC Ballet teachers will participate in extensive teacher training this summer in order to introduce the new work to our students in the Fall of 2012. Caitlyn Smith and Lesley Shearer traveled to London in January to learn the new syllabus directly from the Royal Academy!
We are excited to see the tremendous growth in our students. They continue to blossom and their artistry and technical proficiency continues to grow in leaps and bounds.

Crestwood Outreach Update |
Crestwood Update
Monday Moves - our outreach program at Crestwood Elementary - came to a close at the end of March, and we are pleased to announce its great success. Over 150 K-6th graders got the amazing opportunity to learn Jazz, Modern, Swing Dance, Hip-Hop, Creative Movement, Choreography, and Folk Dance from our very own MFAC faculty! The program ended with a grand assembly on March 26th in which even Miss Diane Spinelli donned her shoes and jeted across the stage - a rare treat, and well worththe long-anticipated wait, too! A heartfelt thank you to all of the teachers who volunteered their time and passion to work with these kids: Zoey Cruz, Breanna Swetland, Diane Spinelli, Alexandra Rosenberg, Klaudia Amenabar, and Sarah Beth Oppenheim. Thanks to Melissa Dobbs and Michelle New for championing the project. And a very special shout out to Kim Amenabar -- without whom the project would not have been possible! These kids have been forever imprinted by the joy of dance! also...if you want...
Feel like a mid-month Spring Fling in the Big Apple? Sarah Beth Oppenheim will be dancing in a new work from critically acclaimed international choreographer Nelly van Bommel at the Baryshnikov Arts Center on April 18th and 19th. Oppenheim, a founding member of noa dance, will be featured in Pinguli, Pinguli which blends theatricality, humor, and raw athleticism in an exploration of community rituals and practices, set to music by celebrated Greek singer Savina Yannatou. For ticket information visit the BAC website: bacny.org.
