Dear Friends,

Each new day is filled with potential and opportunities, and we believe, as you do, that every child should have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, both as individuals and as citizens. We believe that opening a child's eyes to what is - opens their mind to what could be. The possibilities are limitless!

Your investment of just a few hours a couple of times a month, helps a child to succeed, and witnessing the transformation of a child into a confident, concerned and motivated young person is a remarkable thing indeed. Brenda's story below, is just one of many that speaks to the positive impact of mentoring.

We'd also like to say a special thank you to Invesco Canada for their ongoing generous support, as well as share with you details on Game On! one of our group mentoring programs. Until next time, we wish you a wonderful week!

Invesco Canada's Big Impact

A long standing partner of Big Brother Big Sisters of Canada for over 10 years, Invesco Canada has been the National Partner for Bowl for Kids' Sake (BFKS) since 2002 and has played a vital role in the rapid growth and evolution of BFKS events from coast to coast. In addition to its National support, Invesco Canada has provided sponsorship funding of $150,000 per year since the beginning of 2005 for a grand total of over $1.35 million that has enabled Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada to support its member agencies and their BFKS events at a National Level.

In early 2013, as part of Big Brothers Big Sisters Centennial year celebration, Invesco Canada and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada released a national survey on the impacNew Invesco logot of mentoring on the reduction of bullying. This study helped to generate media attention and provided Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and its agencies with key findings on the impact of bullying across Canada as well as its harmful effects on youth and their communities. In addition to the release of the survey, the national theme for the 2013 Bowl for Kids' Sake season was Step up to "Strike Out Bullying". Read more...

In-School Empowering Boys and Young Men through Group Mentoring

The journey to adulthood is never an easy one, but at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, we believe it can be smoothed out with the guidance and support of a mentor who cares and understands.

Across the country, our Game On! mentors serve as role models and demonstrate to boys and young men the value of healthy eating, physical activity, as well as the importance of self-esteem and confidence.

What my son's Big Brother has meant to me

A Mother's Story

In order to understand what having a big brother in my son's life has meant to me you would have to understand my son.

Brendan is full of life, love, energy and questions. He is always willing to help another. But he can also be argumentative, stressful, and exhausting. At an early age he was diagnosed with ADHD and a learning disability. It was hard for Brendan to make friends and when he was 4 he used to tell me he hated himself. When he was around 7 he was enrolled in BBBS. He attended what was called "THE BIG BUNCH GROUP," a group for little's that were not matched yet. This is where he first met Adam. In honour of our 100th year in 2013, we created a keepsake book filled with inspirational stories, poetry, artwork, and photos from and by...you! We havCommemorative booke a limited number of copies left. If you would like to order a copy of this beautiful keepsake before they are all gone, click the image for more details.
