Franconia Notch from Echo Lake Beach - taken in 2009 (only a 15 min drive! Love it here!)
|
I'm a little slow on the draw lately... it just occurred to me that its Thanksgiving next week. I'm still stuck on Halloween. I
just got the spooky decorations boxed up and now I have to go get out the
Thanksgiving box. Then it's back down to the basement to swap yet another box(es) to bring up the
Christmas stuff.
I'm really looking forward to our annual trip to The Rocks Estate for our holiday tree in a couple weeks. Hopefully we will have a tiny bit of snow to set the mood. Franconia is just gorgeous right now. If I get on the highway from my house, it's just a couple miles until the highway opens up and the notch is all you see. It takes my breath away every time. I heard tell on Facebook that the aurora borealis was shimmering over the White Mountains the other night. I can't believe I missed it! I saw a big one in Plymouth about 25 years ago that I will never forget.

New Center: White Mountain National Forest needs Granite State Ambassador expertise!
If you enjoy people and care about our country's natural resources, the White Mountain National Forest needs your time and talents along with those Granite State Ambassador customer service skills! The WMNF is seeking volunteers willing to provide excellent customer service, greeting visitors and responding to phone inquiries at the White Mountain National Forest Headquarters in Campton, NH. Basic computer skills are a plus, but not required. This office is a destination for visitors seeking information about all the National Forest has to offer. Some may be looking for hiking opportunities or a scenic drive, while others may hope to find that pristine campsite.
GSAs who have spent time in the area can share their love of the region by assisting visitors seeking local knowledge, and possibly about the White Mountain National Forest. Other GSAs may want to use this as an opportunity to learn about the National Forest and all it has to offer. We are sure this opportunity will provide eager GSAs additional information to share with NH visitors.
Sign up online for shifts Monday-Friday. To view this schedule, don't forget to check off the WMNF Campton Headquarters as a preferred assignment on the "My Profile" tab. I will have their info page up soon.

The NH Ski Museum's mission is to collect, conserve, and exhibit elements of ski history for research, education and inspiration. The NH Ski Museum has operated the Museum at
Franconia Notch State Park (next to the Cannon Tram) since December 1982 and welcome thousands of visitors each year. They encourage you to enjoy their stories from the history of skiing.
Their permanent exhibition is From the First Tracks to the Fall Line: eight thousand years of skiing. It presents a timeline of the development of skiing from its prehistoric roots up until the advent of the shaped ski in the 1990s, and includes local aspects of ski history with national implications such as several important 'firsts' at Cannon Mountain, and the career of area native Bode Miller. www.skimuseum.org
