Direct Mail Predictions for 2016: Letter Volumes, Cost & Security

~by Merry Law, President of WorldVu LLC

What's coming for direct mailers in 2016? Without more ado, here's what I think the future will hold in the upcoming year. Some predictions will be good for mailers and some will not. In either case, it pays to be prepared.

1. Costs for mailing and shipping will continue to rise, with increases in the cost of international shipping and mailing remaining substantial greater than domestic increases.

2. Letter volumes will stop their steep decline and stay at a relatively steady but lower "new normal" volume. This will help the postal operators but will not solve all their financial problems.

3. Package volumes will not increase as much as the postal operators have predicted. (Competition with the private carriers is strong in that market.) A lack of support services for international shipping by the postal operators will depress further growth in this area for the postal operators.

  • Winter Has Arrived, Sort Of, But Not Really
  • ~by Katie Favreau & Jennifer Martell, Global-Z Co-Morale Officers

Winter has arrived, sort of, but not really. We are enjoying unseasonably mild temperatures here at GZ North. Lately most days have felt like being plunged headfirst into the freshness of spring, kind of. We anticipate snow in the forecast and maybe it will be here shortly, or not. Either way, we are saving on the fuel bills this year. This is good because when it is really cold our "Assistant" refuses to start our cars for us which we think totally defeats the purpose of employing an assistant, but I digress. We successfully set up our Geek Tree which debuted last year. Somebody foolishly left a 3 inch drive holder laying around in our suite and it quickly became the new tree-topper. It may have been there to be repaired, but this just goes to show that you can't leave stuff on our "crafting table" and expect it to remain un-utilized. A friendly co-worker decided that the drive holder was missing something and added a power supply fan to top it off. We appreciate that type of extra effort to add to our decorating activities.

    Geek Holiday Tree?! Keep Reading.
