Dear Friends,
Welcome to 2013! The Goyer house is expanding with blessings already this year!
Last year I read Kisses for Katie, by Katie Davis, during a MomLife Retreat, and I felt called to open our home to more kiddos through adoption. Adopting Alyssa has been a true joy, and I know there are so many other children who need homes. I asked my MomLife friends to pray for me. I had no idea what John would think. I called him that night, unsure I'd mention what I felt. I thought it might be better to wait until we were sitting face-to-face again. Instead, when I called the first thing out of John's mind surprised me, "Have you ever thought about adopting out of the foster care system?" God had been speaking to his heart, too, through different channels!
We talked and prayed, we attended training classes, we had homestudies and interviews, and then we waited 1 1/2 months for a referral. While I was in Colorado the call came, and we were told about two kids who the social worker thought would be a good fit for our family. A few days later we were bringing "Sissy" and "Buddy" home. (These are not their real names. I can't post their names and photos until after the adoption is finalized.)
Sissy is 5 and Buddy is 2. Yes, with Alyssa that means we have two 2-year-olds in the house. It's been a BUSY and FULL two days, but we have been impressed by how well the transition has gone. Won't you keep us in your prayers in the weeks and months to come?
If you ever considered adopting from the Foster Care System, here are some resources from Focus on the Family:

New Book!
Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams-a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests-her former fiancé, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town of Glacier Bay, Alaska, where the town's colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA's pressures.
In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children's governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover-as Ellie did-that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?
Story behind the Story from Co-Author Ocieanna
Summerside was looking for a title from Alaska. My co-author, Tricia Goyer, and I liked the sound of Glacier Bay and just went with it. I had known about missionaries going to Alaska in the early 1900s, so I thought that would be fun to dive into. Then Summerside asked if we could do a contemporary mixed with historical. We loved the idea. I decided to write the historical and Tricia did the contemporary.
